I am going to be getting a new dog soon. My last dog was named Samba (a red chow chow), and I want my new dog to also have a name that is something about dancing. I have heard of other dancerish pet names such as Jitterbug, Lindy, Bolero, Salsa. If you know of any other good dancerish names, let me know! Thanks pet lovers!

 any idea what breed or sex? For some reason, Suzy Q comes to mind but it won't do if you get a male dog
Tango could be nice if it is a male dog , of a decent size or a really hairy/furry one. If it is a sausage dog, then, Tango might not do  :D

A friend of mine has an Arabian named Tango. It is a beautiful creature.
My dog show buddy has a Cocker named, Miestro. That's pretty cool.

Oh I don't know about that  Margaret Thatcher had a prize pig named after her  She thought it was an honour and was there at the naming ceremony I think :D
So, if the dog is cute  and is well trained, why not?

Yeah, the dog of the dance studio that I usually attend is named Tango.
Just whatever you do (to that owner), don't name your next dog Cash.

 I don't know about that one. I mean, if you call something, it comes to you right? So, if you call "cash", money will come your way no?

Not a dog...but I SERIOUSLY used to go to school with two brothers...
Cash Krickler
Kerry Krickler
We used to joke that Cash and Kerry's parents were named Bill and Penny.

lol what did Cash and Kerry say?
As we have digressed slightly, there was a couple here in the UK who apparently could not decide on a name for their newborn, they were both soccer/football mad, so they gave the child all the names of the players of their favourite football team
(it came to something like 16 names or so)

LOL!
I've only just joined today and already I'm finding all these things that I just have to write about.
As for dog names--I need to say that I've trained and shown dogs for well over 15 years now, and I'm running into all these dog-dance crossovers. I've had a role reversal with my first teacher, for example, a fabulous rhythm dancer, whom I'm working with to train her Weimie puppy--and a Weimie is *not* an easy dog. Lucky for her, she's had plenty of time to develop patience in teaching me Latin motion....
But as for dog names. Tango is good because it's clear, short, and won't be confused with a lot of other things when your dog hears it. The problem with fancier names is that they're harder to use as call names, and you'll wind up shortening them anyway, for convenience sake. But you can easily say, "Tango come!" or "Tango sit!" or "Tango down!" or "Tango jump!"
If you think your dog is going to be a good jumper, you might consider a name like "Jetee." But Tango is better because the accent is on the first syllable. Rumba is not as good, because the "r" and the "mb" get you too immersed in the muscular sound to let it come trippingly on the tongue (unless you roll your rs). Samba is better. But Tango is just the clearest sound.
You could also call your dog "Slow." That way, when you take him out to pee, you can say, "Quick, Slow. Quick, quick, Slow...."
I couldn't remember if you mentioned breed.
In any event, since you already dance, you might consider doing a little agility competition with your new dog. It's all about lead and follow--and if you do that, it will give you a whole new activity to spend lots of money on, go to competitions with vendors and videos, practice practice practice for the one little green ribbon that says you've qualified in your event. In fact, between dancing and agility, you'll never have to worry about what you're doing on any particular weekend for the rest of your career!
Cheers,
Genesius

 I have heard/read that dogs/cats are an extension of the personality of their owners. (I guess the same could be said for all animals.) So, it is understandable that someone with a lot of patience would choose (either accidentally/instinctively) a "difficult" dog - or maybe the dog chose her
There is also the other theory that owners and their dogs, especially, often start looking like each other/have similiar personalities after a number of years

LOL! Well, patience is not her strong suit; just that with me as her student she didn't have much choice--the dog is like her, impulsive and brilliant.
As for dogs and owners, mine is an Airedale Terrier, and we are almost exactly alike in every conceivable way. Down to the texture of our hair!

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Cool names! I like Sache and Shag (which could be Shaggy or Shagger). My last dog was named Samba (She got out of the backyard and got run over this time last year, very sad). I miss her and am looking forward to having a dog again.

Geneisus,
If you show dogs...do you play the sim at Showdog.com? I do (I show AKC conformation) and I'm addicted.
At present, I have one brown and tan American Cocker Spaniel bitch (BTW...I didn't say 'witch' in my original post--but the correct name used throughout the show world) named Godiva (her call name of course). I've pointed her owner-handled...but alas, will not finish her. Every time she comes into season she blows coat. I'm considering breeding her, but I have to do her second round of OFA's and first round of CERF's (she just turned 3)...also, the thyroid tests. There's so much to breeding show dogs...
Very nice to meet a fellow dog person.

Hey April-
Great name for the cocker!
My own boy, Becket, is an Airedale--full name Seneca Becket of Canterbury. We did a little breed, and he's got both majors and only has points to be finished (hard to find more than 2 point majors where I am), so I just never finished him. He's mostly been shown in agility, where he was one leg shy of his AX, AXJ, and whatever the equivalent USDAA title was when we quit. He's got a fab coat--as wiry as a brillo pad. Also used to show a pair of beagles, Ellie (AX, AXJ) and Greta, recently passed away
:(
Haven't seen the dog show sim--sounds hilarious!
Likewise nice to meet another dog person--kisses and treats for Godiva!

the dog show world wierds me out  from what I can tell (my brother's gf is a groomer and has blown lots of cash showing dogs and such) it's a completely self sustaining faction. I wouldn't call it wrong... just sorta rubs me the wrong way... or maybe that's just my brother's gf....
