I think most of us have been to dances where a raffle drawing is held. For those that have held a winning number what sort of things were the prize?
For me a rather fancy t-shirt at a C&W dance and at the studio I attend I have been a frequent winner of activity passes.

Whatever the organizers can get for free, so it runs the gamut. Gift bags are good ones -- filled with sundry items from local vendors, not necessarily dance related. Sometimes free memberships to USABDA, sometimes tickets to a dance. You name it.

:oops: I have generally found in my 1,000 or so years of life on this planet that if I select a number and give it to someone, "they" win :oops:
One of the funniest experiences I had - I was involved in selling tickets for ae raffle and the person I approached said - here's the money, you take the ticket. I didn't want to take the ticket so I "gave" it to the yet to be born child of the organiser. Guess which ticket got 2nd prize! :lol:
(The prize was a really nice food hamper with various types of alcohol, biscuits, cheeses etc)

Oh come on Pacion, donīt exagerate. Iīm sure youīve only been around 950 years on this planet... :wink:
Hmm... Donīt feel bad Iīve been lurking on this planet for around 2000. :oops: And yes, that was before the wheel was invented...
BTW, you registered here in the DF after I did and already have more posts than me. Whatīs your secret? :shock:

ROTFL! I thought the cavemen had a rudimentary wheel! I mean, the caveman I was dating would give me the excuse of "a flat wheel" for cancelling, but little did he know that I knew the wheels were made of stone, even though I never saw one :headwall: (my Dad drew me a picture as he had seen one :wink: )
As to how come I have more posts than you? :roll: :roll: I thought it was a well known opinion (which does not make it true, of course) in the men's world, that women are more talkative? :lol:

The biggest prize I ever won was an activity pass good for 11 group classes or open dances which sell for fifty dollars. This was at a NYE Dance three years ago.

Caveman, you say? Did he used to drag you out of the cave by your hair? :wink: Is that what went wrong with the relationship (I asume you broke up)? :wink:

prizes i've won (or have been won by friends) include:
- an annual pass to universal studios;
- $25 coupon for a meal at a local restaurant
- candy;
- CD's/tapes;
- wine;
- xmas gift basket;
- free admittance to a future dance;
ironically, somebody blew the whistle on a couple of venues (incl. the one that gave out the pass to universal & bottles of wine) and some some reason it was deemed illegal so they are now no longer giving out these door prizes.

A very timely thread this is...!
There is a formal (salsa) ball coming up & they were giving out tickets at one of our clubs, for the best dancers during the second set of the band. I was having a great time dancing with this social partner (not my regular, but a fav) of mine, and he won. They gave the other ticket to one of the other girls because I had recently won a couple of Mojitos dancing wih my salsa mentor/ex. I guess no body likes to be guilty of favourtism.
Then during the Salsa Brava party, they were giving out these tickets again. This time I got one!
8) Looks like I'm destined to go to this ball 8) !

There was a charity raffle at the 5 Star London Congress, this weekend gone.
Although I didn't win anything :( some of the prizes were really good, I thought :D It is amazing how generous some people can be and then others :evil: Still, the amount raised has not been released as yet but I think the ticket sales went well. David Melendez kindly donated a pair of tickets to the NY Salsa Congress taking place in August. The woman who won, was so thrilled and appreciative! :lol: She and her boyfriend were so nice, I didn't have the heart to be jealous/envious :oops: :D So many people though donated prizes, it was really good to see the salsa community and people even from outside of salsa giving so generously :banana:

at our local swing dance on Sunday nights, $25. If it goes unclaimed, it rolls over to the following week's dance. Of course, I've already paid my membership and been to enough dances that I'm still going to be in the hole even if I win the prize. :o
