Okay, some of you have probably gone through this before. I am trying to get money for my first comp. in may. This summer I have taken on a second job but it doesn't start untill june. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas of how to raise money. I do work just not enough hours at the moment (i work retail. my hours are crap)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ebay. Beats the heck out of a yard sale.

a girl at my studio put on a talent show/variety for a fundraiser. She got alot of dancers and musician friends of hers to donate their time and people paid tickets to see the show. She danced a bit with her instructor for it too. I think she made quite a bit of money doing it.

Any school subjects you're particularly good at? I tutor math on the side. $45 / hour but I have my BA, MBA, substitute teaching cert, blah, blah, blah. But assuming you're still in school, you could peer tutor maybe for something more reasonable.

Check craigslist for temporary jobs (special event staff, whatever). Conducters of research studies also post there asking for people to participate in their studies and frequently compensate.

C'mon, you don't think that your guinea pigs grow on trees out in the back, do you? You have to lure 'em out! ;)

There's even a site you can register on to be automatically considered for medical studies.

A fourth job? (So I'm on job #4. Sleep is highly overrated.)

Izzy, you and I have the same thinking cap on of late. :)

Hmmm...this is an excellent idea. One man's junk is another's treasure...

Am curious what the latest experience is of other DFers w/ ebay...wasn't there a recent rule change for sellers that put people off? Do they take a cut of your profits? Do other experienced ebayoing DFers still recommend that approach?

Izzy, do you have some other kind of knowledge or expertise you can make available to others for a modest fee? For example, an ipod mgmt service for the older generation who have their gadgets but are intimidated by them.

Or, do you sing or play an instrument, something that would lend itself to weddings?

Not really. I've started taking extra hours at work and also cleaning my mom's house and she's agreed to pay me for it. I'm just hoping it will be enough. I'm gonna see if I have anything I can put on ebay. I have a few textbooks on half.com but its not really textbook buying time right now.

Are you going competing through a studio? Perhaps you could ask about a work-study where you work at the studio in exchange for them paying a portion of your comp fees.
