Hey,
I just got a new iPod mini with room for 1000 songs -- I can't wait to start filling it up with great dance music...
If you were in my shoes, what songs would you pick first????

What kind of dancing do you do? This could help someone to make suggestions . . .

I'm just starting out with Waltz, Fox Trot, Rumba, Salsa, Cha Cha and Swing (I know this is too generic for this bunch  ).
But don't let my list box you in.... I am interested in the songs that really make you want to get up and dance -- in any flavor.

I have a few Cha Cha and Rumba favorites.... and Im relatively new to dancing as well so my favorites tend to have an easy beat to pick!
Cha Cha
Chilli Cha Cha - Jessica Jay
Dont Stop Movin' -SClub7
Dance With Me- Debelah Morgan
Lets Get Loud -Jennifer Lopez (I know I know    but its fun to move to!)
Rumba
Sway - Julie London (something about this song...I leave it on repeat, even if Im not dancing to it!)
Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps- Strictly Ballroom soundtrack (not sure of the artist)
Emotion - Destinys Child
Could I have This Kiss Forever - Whitney Housten/Enrique
For Salsa...I dont have much of a collection, but one song I cant get enough of is Puerto Rico ..off that Salsa soundtrack
Hope you fill your ipod fast!

I kind of already did this for salsa on another thread, but what the heck, maybe I will think of something new. I will limit myself to ten (and limit myself to salsa since I don't have selections that inspire me for each of these dances, at least not offhand):
Frankie Ruiz: "La Cura"
Louie Ramirez (with Azuquita): "En un Beso la Vida"
Tito Nieves: "Dejame Vivir"
Grupo Niche: "Cielo de Tambores"
Sonora Poncena: "Sonora P'al Bailador"
Eddie Palmieri: "Malaguena Salerosa"
Cuco Valoy: "Mariana Engracia"
El Gran Combo: "Me Libere"
Fruko y Sus Tesos: "Cali de Rumba"
Gilberto Santa Rosa: "La Agarro Bajando"
I will throw in a fox trot:
Frank Sinatra: "Love is Here to Stay" (I especially like his version, the one on Songs for Swingin' Lovers)
Also, I have to confess that my dance teacher got me to like the country music waltz "Could I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life?" or whatever it's called, even though I hardly had any exposure to waltz.

Forgot cha cha cha! How could I?
Joe Bataan: "Muchacho Ordinario"
Eddie Palmieri: "Criticona"
Eddie Palmieri: "Tema de Apollo"
Marc Anthony: "Preciosa"
Carlos Santana: "Oye Como Va"
Azuquita: "La Llorona"
Oscar D'Leon: "Volver a Verte"
(Yes, I am a lot less familiar with cha cha cha than with salsa)

(Interestingly, to me anyway, I first heard "Malaguena Salerosa" and "La Llorona" on a Tish Hinojosa CD. They were both originally Mexican folk songs, I think.)

My poor daughters...
as I am reading your suggestions, and finding many that really
get my feet moving, I am making them dance with me… They really
liked it for the first few songs, but now they are running away shrieking in
terror...
