I seem to have lots of questions recently. I was wondering in pro-am competition do you usually do routines or just lead-follow? Does it change depending on levels?

I believe Pro-Am is generally routines, but always be prepared for on-the-fly changes. Never assume that the routine is set in stone. Stuff happens, and you need to adjust as necessary. I would guess that a newcomer routine is short and simple to lessen the chances of blanking out. Heck, blanking out happens to everyone now and then. THAT'S when lead-follow kicks in. Personally my Am-Am partner and I do lead-follow at comps, but from what I hear it's not that common. Being able to do both is ideal.

With both my pros in all my dances, we have a routine, but especially in Smooth, traffic realities mean we're not always going to stick to it. Watching their other students, the same thing applies regardless of level. You have a plan, but you're ready to think on your feet, too.

I have set routines I do. However, I can and usually do change them on the fly in the interest of floor craft.

I believe you and I are the only ones.
With my students and me, it depends on the student and what they feel best doing. Routines usually for my more advanced students, but I love to freestyle. It leaves more open for interpretation in case you get to dance to a really great song :)
