Optical Illusion

It's hard to believe the squares in this optical illusion (http://www-bcs.mit.edu/people/adelson/checkershadow_illusion.html) are the same color.
I didn't believe it myself, so I cut out peices and placed them side by side here (http://www.david-duval.com/squares.htm)
