I knew Eric and his partner Norma Graves.I never saw him dance but people said he was a genius.I also heard that he helped Alan Fletcher choreograph a very famous jive routine.

I met Eric the first day he walked into the Hammersmith Palais .Someone ( cant remember who ) pointed him out to me .

He had just started to get involved in dance .

As i recall, small in stature, but had that gift of " floor presence ". He became a regular ( as many of us did ) to the " sessions " that the palais did for the dance crowd. ( it wasnt b/room every day or nite ) . But thats were most cut their dance teeth .
For the many that are not familiar with London, there were several of these large dance halls in areas surrounding London, like Tottenham court rd and Streatham Locarno . Each had special days they kinda reseved for the strict tempo dance crowd . They even attracted the " giants " of the day, mainly chatting and sizing up the talent .

More importantly, they gave us a place to practice .

The Hammersmith Palais was the venue for the " Star " championship for many yrs, and later on ,the UK was held there .This was also Binnicks " studio" , for yrs.

Bands like V. Sylvester and Joe Loss played on occasion. Also, many studios had public dances ( plenty of partners everywhere )

One of his last positions was MC at Blackpool

Kinda ironic seeing he was regarded more as a Standard dancer--- he did place well in latin but never reached the same heights

Also danced , and won ,with Sheila Wilkinson
