Morning everyone.

Those of you in the UK, can you suggest where I might find some-one to help me?

Although I am interested in largely social dancing, I may want to do Bronze and Silver eventually although not compete. I take local classes for beginners but get frustrated that we don't learn the finer points such as the correct positions, degrees of turn, names of steps and so on.

I want to keep going to my class but take the routines we have and learn to do them 'properly' and be able to learn and understand the correct terms. Beyond that, I don't know at this stage - much will depend how my husband feels.

In order of preference I would like to find:

An instructor in Derbyshire/Leciestershire
An instructor in Staffordshire/Nottinghamshire/West Midlands
Somewhere we could combine good private dance instruction with a holiday
Anywhere we can reach in a day for a couple of hours tuition now and then

Good luck gc. It seems your taste and desire to improve are above average. Until you find what you're looking for, the Alex Moore books and ISTD revisions of his works should be great readings. They are not easy to understand for the beginner, but they are very thorough. Alex Moore took great care in choosing the words he used to describe ballroom dancing. I would say his books and those that have chosen to follow his teachings are the best teachers you will find on paper. It will take some effort, but once you understand how to use them, you will find them to be the bible of ballroom dancing. Even once you find human help, they'll always be there as a reference.

I only say this because, I truly believe they are an important tool in ballroom dancing, and you would be missing something if you didn't acquire them. When I love and I am as interested in something as much as you seem to be, I seek out all avenues associated with my love, and I feel that is where you're at with your dancing. These books would be extremely beneficial. They will answer almost any question you can think of. They are simply some of the best descriptions you can find in written form.

Once again...good luck! ;)

Thanks Easy

I have that book of Alex Moores and also Victor Silvesters and find them invaluable. I guess they are probably one of the reasons I realise I'm going down the wrong track for my personality. I'm just glad I know now rather than find out in a years time I have many bad habits to 'unlearn'. ;)

Lol you must be psychic - I have a lesson booked for Saturday.

I am going to try more than one, if I can find them, and see what suits us best.

Thanks Malcom.

Wish me luck!
