Here, the going rate is around $65.00 for a private lesson and $5.00 for a group class. Just wondered how this compares elsewhere.

Depends on the person. Small group lessons are usually $60-80 an hour to be split among number of people taking the class. Privates are around that amount to higher depending on the person ($85-100 an hour).

I pay $60 per hour for mine, I know another studio that has them at $52 p/hr.

Group classes vary.... some are free for beginners and go up to $20.

But of course the per hour rate on privates decreases when lessons are purchased in in sets of say 10-20 lessons.

Umm, I take it that this isn't in US $ though, rite?

Just as general info, I know that 45 minute lessons, with many of the top instructors in the world, were running 45 GBP when I was in London last spring...

Just had to end abruptly...

Cost of a 1 week course of ballroom class lessons in Goa, India, is about 400 rupees, 45 rupees to a dollar...

And in New York, where I am, it is about 10 dollars fro a group leson and 50 + US dollars for privates.

Small world! I was going to pose the same question. I paid $22 for a single group AT class at Dance Manhattan on a recent trip to NYC - if I'd done 3 classes that night they'd have charged me $66! To be fair, their pricing structure appears to be aimed at selling a course rather than individual classes - but it's still bloody expensive for a visitor.

Average costs in my part of the world are between £25 and £40 for a one hour private class and £5 for a group class - most are at the cheaper end of that scale. My local Modern Jive class runs from 8pm to 11pm, costs £4.50 and includes a 1 hour beginner class, 45 minute intermediate class plus a total of 1 hour 15 minutes of freestyle - one of the cheapest nights out I know! A freestyle dance is typically £4 - £7 here in the West Country.

In London prices are higher but Hipsters in Ealing (thought by many to be the best class/venue) is £5 for the beginner/intermediate night and £6 for the intermediate/advanced night.

The studio I go to charges $35 an hour for privates...don't remember for groups. But I have had training with pros that are $75 and up per hour...

Sounds like we have it cheap around here!!

I pay $10 per group lesson and typically sign up for a series of 3, 4 or 5 lessons. Privates run $50, while privates with an advanced pro run $70. A person can also get 11 lessons for the price of 10.

We use 3 coaches ... $65 for 45min ... $90 for 1 hr ... and ... $150 for 45 min. How's that for diversity! Guess which coach we see the most often?!

I have quite a deal, in my opinion:

All lessons and classes are 45 min. The one lesson a week offering is:

$75 - (some discount for 25, and 50 lesson packages)
- 1 private lesson for an individual or couple, charge is for the instructor's time
- 2 stretching and toning classes (Stretching and torture :o )
- 1 group technique class (blended levels, and it works well, imho)
- 1 group dance figures class (beginner mostly)
- 2 hour dance party where the instructors rotate around the room dancing with everyone

- additionally for $5 each there are 2 fitness classes available (Stretching and Torture II  )
