It's the last week for Season Six!

Who will it be ... Krisiti or Jason or Cristian :?:

Dancing the same dance (cha cha) in the same number to the same music really exposed the incompetance of the lesser dancers' big time.

Looked like Julianne was helping Mark with the choreography (was she?).

I missed it; who did well?

Kristi/Mark got an insurmountable 60 out of 60 for their cha cha and freestyle.

Kristi blew them off the floor with cha cha and then again with freestyle (and yes, that was Julianne helping--I think this is the first time I remember hearing them mention she was Mark's competitive partner. She was there to help Kristi with the lifts and with giving Mark the "boost" into his backflip. I don't know if Kristi was more afraid of getting kicked in the face or doing it wrong and Mark landing on his head.)

Cha-cha did make it obvious who the better skilled dancer was.

I find it interesting that they actually all had to do the same dance, and I'm wondering why it was decided to do it this way this season?

Also, Krisiti's freestyle was way out better than the other two.

I'll be surprised if Krisiti doesn't win.

I don't know who it will be. I like Kristi, and I'm hoping it's her. But Christian did a very good job despite his arm. I have a lot of respect for him and what he did this whole season. And Jason could move! I was impressed! I didn't think that Edyta could get Jason to do any of that, but she did! So, yeah to me they all did great in different ways. It will depend on who the votes go to in the end though. ;)

Well, I can't get through on Kristi's line....

Jason was some kind of movin' during the freestyle - it wasn't as exciting as Kristy's, but wow - he was great... if he had moved his hips in the cha cha round the way he did in the freestyle, I think it would have definitely been closer scores...

I love Jason, but I do feel Kristy deserves to win - she is the best.

Yes Mark was Julieann's partner.. Derek and Julianne lived and were trained my Marks parents.. And Mark is also in Derek's band

My gut feeling was that Kristi might not get the votes, because she was almost... toooo good, which has hurt some people in the past from winning either before they got to the championships or even during the championships. So, it will be interesting how people view everything.

I am voting for Cristien tonight.. He's very impoved and stuck with the show thru thick and thin.. He's really devoted to it..

What I meant to say earlier was that there has been some controversy on whether the pros get any outside help on choreography. Some have insisted that they did their own choreography. But those who didn't (there may be a few) just never admitted it. And here we saw Julianne seemingly assisting Mark with the choreography of the freestyle, which went on the get a perfect 30.

I liked the side by side by side cha cha! It really shows who has got it, and that is Kristie!
I believe she has done it - the winner - Kristi and Mark!

So, they actually don't have to do any ballroom in the final then?

I watched the cha chas on MOIB this morning (had to do without sound so as not to wake someone up) and my favorite part was actually the dresses. Loved all three of them (well, liked Edyta's the least, style-wise, but the colors were great on her). I would take any one of Cheryl's dresses (and I know they're going to call and offer them to me any minute...), but in particular that first purple one. That was a MQ dream color. The green one was my runner-up, and then Kristi's fringe.

I thought Kristi nailed it last night in both dances - she was fantastic! I hope whe wins! Cristian should be second and Jason third, JMHO.

I did notice that Christian had some moments where he found something to do with his bad arm. Although there were some times where is was still just hanging at his side, at least part of the time he put his hand on his hip and I think that looked a lot better.

You never know how the votes are going to turn out, but I do think that Kristi is the best dancer of the three.

There was something in both of Kristie's dances that i didn't like..
I did vote for Christan last night because he has over come so much.. He deserves to be rewarded... And i challange any of the men on this forum to dance with one arm for, what is it now, 3 weeks? See how much you can do.
And perhaps if they'd found out that Jason can dance in the first place and used it to his advantage he might be very good by now.. But his freestyle was not ballroom. It was hip hop.. Hmmm maybe that's what i didn't like about Kristie's dances... The looked too much like they should be in a music video..
I think everyone who goes on that show deserves a mirror ball too.. They all gave it thier all.. Nobody slacked off at all thru the entire season..
They are all very driven people...

And i guess i'd like to see somebody, other than an athalete win this time.

I'm getting really sick of hip-hop in the finals. I would have liked to see Jason do a nice powerful, sexy foxtrot. At least Cristian did something a little different.

I was surprised to hear the band doing Elvis Crespo's "Suavamente". Normally I can't stand that song being played in the clubs (there are so many other merengue songs that are much better) but for DwtS it was appropriate and I liked how Cheryl and Cristian danced to it.

Regarding the large amount of hip-hop in the finale, yeah it did seem like too much of a good thing. Liked Mark and Kristi's and didn't care for Edyta and Jason's after the opening bit.

I think the hip-hop is fun for the finals. All season, we see ballroom. It's a nice change for the dancers, as well as the viewers, at least this viewer.

I agree with you and AE. It is great to see something different but at the same time it's nice to see it balanced out a little with something we've seen the celebrities learn during the season. Too much of one style in the free style can be a bit boring, I guess.

Does anyone know if they get to pick their music for the freestyle or are they given music like all the rest of the dances?

Another Elizabeth
05-20-2008, 01:39 PM
They get to pick the music, but it still has to be copyright cleared, so they don't get total free rein. I think they have to choose it off a list, but I'm not sure.

I was working on the computer when my wife shouted "Suavemente"!

We had done a group Samba routine to this song years ago when we were just starting. It was a nightmare, the song was good but the teachers were horrible. They gave us nightmares. So it was interesting to watch someone else dance to it.

I agree I would like to see more ballroom (though it is called Dancing with the Stars and not Ballroom with the Stars) than hip hop.

I agree, all the emphasis on ballroom all season long, and then hip hop for free style. I'm fairly certain in the first season this was not the way, and doesn't need to be now.

On top of that, there really did seem to be some iceskating like choreography in the Kristi's routine, and there seemed to be moments when it might have been Ballas that had been taught something new, rather than Kristi.

The atmosphere on DWTS finals is amazing... but it seems weird to me that someone can win without doing one step of ballroom in the final. In the UK final all contestants have to do a ballroom routine, a latin, a group VW, judges' choice and a freestyle. So everyone is doing at least two ballroom and at least one latin.

In practice it seems that the best latin dance always wins the show, but they still have to get the ballroom right to get the judges' marks.

Haven't seen the final yet but I wanted Kristi to win so I'm pretty happy.

I found it painful to watch the dances of the early stars. The first four seem like they were worst than when they first did them several weeks ago. I don't think it's my imagination, as they likely haven't dance anything for the past several weeks and then did a few hours(?) of rehearsal and it shows.

Jason and Kristi both did well, I could have seen either as the winner. Congrats to Kristi!

I spotted a few of the DwtS pros during Usher's second performance and know that I spotted Karina. Just checked MyOxisBroken.com and she confirms that it was Karina, Derek, Kym and Cheryl mixed in with Usher's dancers.

I agree that they both did great. I was happy to see Kristi win though, mainly so that a woman could take the trophy again.

I will say though, that it's a shame that Edyta has been on every season but hasn't taken the trophy yet.

Perhaps, but I enjoyed watching her dance either way, she's such a nice, sweet person. I have a feeling casting her had something to do with the upcoming Olympics as well..

Can you imagine what a career ending move it would be for the three judge's choreography careers if Kristi hadn't won? :)

If "Dancing" aired on NBC (which airs the Olympics) instead, then I'd see that connection.

Ditto. Every time I watch a freestyle routine, I always feel like it's coming from left field--they work so hard on ballroom all season, and that's the culmination? I'd like to see some awesome WCS or Hustle freestyles, like the ones on So You Think You Can Dance. They could still do all the lifts and tricks, but it would be a bit more in keeping with the ballroom emphasis.

I don't know if this has been covered before.. my appologies if it has...but.. in this season.. Len Goodman showed Kristi and Marc a dance step .. in their jive.. I believe he called it " Arkansas pull through"... by any chance ... would a member here have an explaination and the step series for this ..............I'm sorry...but I am no fan of the cuddle positions.. in the Jive.......so this would be different.. Thank you, Pirate Smith
