Help! I do not know much about swing dancing. My daughter is a figure skater and her coach has selected swing music for one of her programs.
Can anyone give me ideas about the dress outfits and styles worn for swing dancing? I think the name of the music is boogie baby.?

Hi figureskater. Welcome. Do you know if your daughter wants a modern or retro look?

Oh yeah, you might also want to check out this older thread on Swing Dance Clothes (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=714)

People are all over the map with their personal preferences, but at least it will give you some ideas. And, if I remember correctly, a few urls are given where you can look at swing clothes. My fave? dancestore.com. Reasonable prices and some cool retro duds. 8) :D

There are so many directions you could go with something like that. For most social swing dances, you could go with a simple white collared blouse with a swingy (meaning flares straight out while spinning) skirt of any color (polka dots and pin-stripes are VERY popular).

You could also go vintage which utilizes dresses, normally belted, with a diversity of swingy-ness in the skirt. Again, pin-stripes and polka-dots.

Finally, Dillards carries a lot of junior dresses that are vintage reproductions. The dresses are often either halter-tops of tank-tops or off of the shoulder...have a fairly full skirt with some type of crinolin underneath. You could purchase something like that and have it shortened to accomodate skating (I figure skate as well).

Thank you for all the wonderful responses. I understand what swing dance is now and I have great ideas for a skating dress.
