Who is going to the Colorado Star Ball. I am doing standard and smooth pro/am. The show should be great Riccardo and Yulia are dancing. This
comp keeps getting better and better. Hope to see some people there
since I haven't had much time to write on the forum. Too much work
not enough dance.

I did it last year, it was really big. Not going this year, though, didn't work out.

I have been at all of the CSB's except for the first two and the last two, I think. Sadly will be missing again this year. Enjoy, everbody!

Hello? Anyone here?
I've been having a blast. This comp is really fun. As always, it's the little touches that make comps different from each other. Last night the organizers were giving out all these blinky light toys and jewelry that made the ballroom look like a little rave :) Today the judges and officials wore weird hats -- it makes things very festive and fun to be judged by someone wearing a lobster or a giant ear of corn on his head.
Apparently this comp keeps getting bigger every year, because this year is the last year at the Hyatt - DTC (Denver Tech Center). Next year they're moving to some Westin so they can have a bigger ballroom. Last night the ballroom was completely packed. I'm hoping it's full again tonight 'cause I'll be dancing my Scholarship, and it's always more fun to dance in front of a crowd.
Hope everyone here is having a good time!

Hi Laura - Good to hear the report from my hometown. I competed at the CSB in 2006 and had a great time! How are your heats going?

Things are going quite well. :) I danced my single-dances and the DanceSport Series event, now I'm having dinner and will take a bath and then head down for the Scholarship.
I was really afraid the altitude would make this very difficult, but it's going better than I thought it would.

Good news - I'm glad the altitude hasn't made it too difficult for you.

It helps that they have an Oxygen Bar in the on-deck area :) I inhaled a bit between rounds this morning and I'm not sure if it helped or hurt but it was sure was interesting. If I get back downstairs early enough before my next event I might hit that again.

Interesting about the oxygen bar. They didn't have that in 2006. I would have been able to use it after my showcase heat.

They didn't have it last year either.

Yes, the oxygen bar is new for this year. I spoke with Richard Booth, one of the organizers, and he said he was hesitant to rent the booth because it was expensive but he's glad he decided to do it. I didn't try it myself because I'm from Colorado Springs, which is actually a little higher in altitude than Denver and so I'm used to working hard with no air. :)
I also loved the little blinky rings they handed out. Was very tempted to wear one during the latin scholarship but didn't think it would stay on my hand!
And the show was outstanding!

Heard from our smooth coach that the Pro Smooth event was quite interesting.
1. Mazen with new partner (rule 11)
2. Eric and Michelle Hudson (rule 11)
3. David and Melania (3 3rds, 1 4th)
4. Radomir and Devorah (3 4ths, 1 3rd)
Did anyone watch? Any comments? Do you know who 5th and 6th were?
Thanks!

I watched but can't remember the 5th and 6th. I wanted the Hudsons to win. Some very nice dancing.

I wanted the Hudsons to win. Some very nice dancing.I hadn't liked the Hudsons' choreography too much at USDC last September, but I have to say I was impressed with what I saw of them at the San Diego comp a couple of weeks ago (really thought they should have placed ahead of David and Melania on the night).

Nathan Simler and Lecie McNees......my studio's pros. Nathan is my instructor. I'm so proud of them. Wish I could have been there to see it!

Welcome to DF dancelvr!
Thanks! I'm so happy to have found this site. It helps me ease my dance-itch on non-dancing days. :-)
LAURA -- Thank you for the lovely compliments regarding Nathan and Lecie. I'll pass them along! They are still a new couple, but with so much potential. They are both really nice, too.
