These DVDs are the coolest, but it is not within my budget to own all of them. So, I would like to know, which are your favorites and why?

I like 2005 Latin for the dances by Malitowski/Leunis, Watson/Carmen etc.

I only own 2004 & 2005. I bought them on some Russian website and they were considerably cheaper (around $50, I think). I am not sure they have any years past that, though.

Is there much difference between 2004 and 05? I had an idea from somewhere that these years were mostly the same couples doing similar routines.

Which dances do you like best of the two?

2004 might have been the first year they offered a DVD version. Before that they were only available in the US on tape. I'm hoping they'll start making them in HD soon. That might get me to spring for a player!

I have all Latin versions from 1999 to 2007, and all Standard versions from 2003 to 2006. My personal favourite of all is Latin from 2003, but then again, Hanna Karttunen is my life, so I guess it just depends on who you like to watch the most.

I thought the quality of dancing in 2003 WSS Latin was exceptional for some reason. I thought Bryan/Carmen outdid themselves in the 2007 WSS.

So, Becca, you would know if there was a year when Hanna and Serena Lecca both participated. If so, which. These are two of my favorite dancers to watch.

Becca

2003 had all of my favourites - Jukka and Sirpa, Paul and Hanna, Slavik and Karina, Michael and Beata, Bryan and Carmen.

There are definitely years which feature both Hanna and Serena, definitely 2000 and 2001 do, but possibly 1999 as well. I can check for you though to make sure, if you like?

No offense Becca but .. Jukka and Sirpa ?!?! REALLY ??? Do you honestly put them in the same league as Slavik and Bryan?

Becca
06-03-2008, 04:08 PM
I didn't say I put them in the same league . . . I said they were one of my favourite couples. Which is true. I have always enjoyed their dancing very much.

For me, to enjoy the dancing I don't have to look at the level - I look at what appeals to me personally. It may not be a couple who is the very best in the world. I just like what I like, and there's no reasoning behind it.

Fair enough!! Hope I didn't upset ya .. thought maybe I could get some insight from you as to what I can look for/at the next time I watch them ..

It's strange. I can't explain what it is that draws me into someone's dancing. I must just subconsciously connect to something, relate to something, and that's it, I'm in love!

I'd say for latin 2003 and 2007 are the best. the rest are good, but those two are just awesome.

Thanks Becca. No hurry, just post after the next time you view them.

I also like to watch Jukka and Sirpa. Their style and character looks like really fun social dancing to me.

I'll have to agree with Becca - 2003 was my favorite Latin - and I have them all from 1998 on. And didn't Jukka and Sirpa win the World's several times??? I've always loved them for their seemingly effortlessness, yet precision.

Becca

They never won the world but Blackpool I think 4 times.

2004 Standard (DVD) has a good dance of Pino-Buccarielli, now my favorite couple, recovering from a non-technical boo-boo, and the recovery was just great!

If you compare the 2004 and 2005 rumba by Slavik & Karina, see what you think - I think the 2004 one had much more emotional impact - they did essentially the same routine.

'96 is the best latin ever: Bryan and Karen, Alan and Carmen, Paul and Vibeke, Jason and Peta (rollin on the river), and paul green. That is a great tape. I will be there this year so I will let everyone know how that compares.

We wanted to go this year as well, but once we looked into how much it would cost there was absolutely no chance we could do it - the flights alone would have made me bankrupt!

I really look forward to hearing all about your experience!

I believe the website MQ mentioned is actually is actually based in Ukraine. I've made a couple of purchases from them and was completely satisfied.

I don't know the DF policy on posting links so I will try sending that link to you as a PM. Hope it works.

Sergey Surkov and Melia were awsome too.

Speaking of Bryan/Carmenperformance in 2007WSS, does anyone know the title of the Paso Doble music they used in that DVD? I know they used the same Paso music in previous yr's performance, and I have gone heaven and hell to find its title.

Is there a big difference between 2006 and 2007 standard superstars dvds, or there are basically same couples doing same routines? I have 2004 and 2005 standard dvds, should I get 2006 or skip it and just get 2007 one?
