I would like to do a Pro-Am showcase in the studio. How many lessons do you need for Pro-Am showcase in the studio ( not competition).?
I was dancing for one year, took at least a 100 private lessons. I only decided to do a showcase now, that is in swing, and it seems that my pro keeps asking for more and more lessons to prepare for a showcase, saying last month he was too busy for competitions, than that he had prio comitments, and so on. Any experience with pro-am studio showcases? That will be my first.

it can be done with 8 (IMO)...as long as you take responsibility for writing down memorizing and practicing the choreo on your own

Assuming you have your music picked out and you devote the entire lessons to the showcase, I'd say 10.
About eight to ten should be sufficient for developing a nice showcase routine.

In my experience:
3 for choreography.
+ 2 for basic integration
+ 5 for technique
+ 10 for styling and more technique
= 20 total. Your mileage may vary.

A few years ago the studio I was taking lessons at would have a really nice big showcase every year. They sold a special package to prep people for it that included 10 lessons plus two sessions with the show's director (with your teacher, too) and two dress rehearsals. So that was basically 14 lessons total. Most people would use up these at the rate of two or three sessions per week, meaning they'd spend about a month or so getting ready for the showcase.
Depends on you. My husband and I have done showcases put together in as little as 2 weeks. (Probably fit in about 5-6 lessons for that.) But it really depends on how complicated the routine is, how polished you want it to be, how much you practice on your own, and how adept you are at learning choreography.

Agree - I typically did between 8-15 lessons for a showcase, but I knew students who took 50 lessons for a showcase. It depends on how long it takes you to learn, retain and perfect choreography, how comfortable you want to be with the routine, how difficult it is, your level of dancing...very personal and specific to each dancer/couple in my opinion.

I am not sure what you mean by a showcase, it is going for medals? or just doing a display dance for others? but I agree, we are currently doing bronze level syllabus and this is our third wee, we have just got the routine under control so now it is the finesse just in one style and we have two more to learn.

She means a display dance, with specific choreography set to a specific piece of music, done at a show put on by the dance studio to "showcase" their students.

Yes, it is a showcase in the studio I take my private lessons. I want to do a swing showcase, before I took roughly 70 lessons, so I should know all the steps.
The teachers telling me that choreographed show and regular lessons/dancing are different things, and sometimes it requires 3 months to put it together. I am getting really upset, I believe he just wants to secure a flow of private lessons rather than putting a showcase is really complicated. I told him I take the simplest choreography and I just want an overall experience of a showcase, not a Las Vegas show.

If you are taking 1 lesson a week, 3 months sounds about right (3 months would be approximately 12 lessons).

I'm taking 2 lessons a week and 3 months will barely be enough. It is a fairly complicated routine though. I guess it depends on how polished you want it to be. One showcase can be very costly!

Exactly. A lot of it depends on how polished you want the showcase to be. Also, there's a lot more to it than just steps. There's technique, style, showmanship, etc., etc., all of which goes into the polish of the showcase. I'm starting a showcase this Friday (having a lesson with my pro and the choreographer) for a show in September. I'll be taking 2 lessons a week and I'm sure it won't be as good as it could be by then. Something can always be improved upon in a showcase routine.

You've already had 100 lessons to improve your dancing skill. I'd would say 6-10 lessons would be enough, unless the choreo is way above your skill level and/or you don't usually pick up choreo that fast.

8-10, could be more if you have a complicated routine or a long music which might require more rehearsal
