Okay, one more question and then I really have to get out of the house. :D Wasn't there a discussion somewhere on DF logo or business cards or something of that nature? Was curious because I like to collect things like T-Shirts and coffee mugs. It would be nice to have those representing the DF. Any thought, suggestions? :D

One of my friends recently tipped me off to Cafepress.com (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/), which one can use to create "your own" stuff to sell/make/whatever.

Granted, I'm not sure who would want the DF "Classic Thong". :!:

I've made df business cards that I hand out at dance events etc. I know a couple others probably have done the same, but haven't heard of anyone making mugs/cups, T-shirts etc.

Hmmm...an interesting idea.

I've talked with a few people about this before. That difficult part is not getting the stuff made, it's distribution. I'll take this back to the other mods for discussion. We'll come up with something. 8)

Silliness aside, guys, I am in the process of sending a group e-mail to my local salsa community (our local website included, hopfully they will do a direct link :D ) containing the link to DF plus a few good sampler threads.

Now, I need some nominations. Please list me a few of your fav threads that truly represent this forum. A lot of legendary ones from earlier times too....anyone been diggin' through them......?

Try the sticky link indices at the top of ballroom and general dance. I'm not sure about salsa or swing.

Thanks... I don't think that thongs are "legal" in competition, are they???

Unless you girls want to do a formation dance with DF thongs for publicity (a la Full Monty).

Anyway, back to some normal mental attitude since I'm at work... 8)

I know that several individuals have DF business cards, and so far SDsalsaguy has the best one that I've seen . . . much better than mine.

If there are only three thongs left . . . I want one of those three, and as far as wearing them in competition, I'll be the judge of that that. Yes, you read it correctly . . . I'm volunteering to be the judge for that competition!

 Thanks Vince... but I didn't know it was a contest!

Seriously though, I'm glad you liked the DF cards I had made up... I just really wanted to design something that would be likely to bring us some trafic.

So I guess I should ask those who have tried. Since I do have a competition coming up this weekend, (http://www.ncsu.edu/stud_orgs/soc_dance/ti/ti2004/index.html) I was wondering for those of you who have tried... what is the best way you think one can publicize this forum from your experience?

Well, it was a contest, and you won!

The prize . . . a month in Troy Dean's back pocket, and if you don't want it, I'll take it!

I've found that the best way is to tell people about it *and* have a business card that you can hand them listing the url and some basic info (i.e. "Ballroom, Salsa, Swing, AT, and more!").

Leaving some of the cards and/or flyers with like information on an information table is good, as is leaving a few on each table where people are sitting as well.

Thanks for helping us get the word out about the DF!

but try not to annoy people! ;)

Good luck!

Thanks etchuck!!

And once people know you are crazy about dance, they just say "it's that dance guy again". No problems on annoying people. They know what to expect, or think they do. Difficult to switch topics sometimes, you know? :(

This is going to be *at* a dance comp... chances are that others there won't be too annoyed by dance related matters!

No! Not more salsa people!  LOL.

Come on Pyg, we know you love us, really. Besides, we are getting close to celebrating 1000 DF members now. Only 30 or so to go! :D

I think at least locally I have the impression from people that I do a lot of dancing, whether it's swing, salsa, ballroom, vintage, contra, or whatever. I just wasn't sure about making business cards (print them off my computer during work or something), but I guess we'll see.

I suppose an order form for DF thongs may be a bit risque... (yes, I still can't get that thought out of my mind yet. ).

But just wondering... what slogan did you guys use? I don't have that much room on a 2-inch by 3.5-inch card.

Just kidding. In spite of my DF job description, I am also a salsa person. And yes, I'm anxious to get up to 1000 members. Any day now. :D 8)

pygmalion

I don't see why not. It's pretty straightforward. All that really has to happen is getting a graphic artist to design a logo and create camera ready artwork. (Which means, in clear black and white , no grays, and with a separate piece of artwork and registration lines for aligning each color. ) It's not difficult.

Bob

hockey jerseys!

Calendars with people dancing!

DF topographial maps and sectional charts!

DF air refill cars for scuba tanks!

OK, some of these may be a bit unlikely

T-shirts and shoe brushes!
T-shirts for high visibility, shoe brushes for usefulness.

I've been thinking about printing a dance-themed slogan T-shirt (like, "salsa stalker (c) Salsachinita" or "shut up and dance! (c) MadamSamba" maybe?) for my forthcoming SalsaMed weekend. Not sure if I can find time to do anything with the idea now (only two days to go!! :D), but if I do manage, I suppose I could make it a dual-purpose DF T-shirt, with a logo and the URL on the back. Any design/slogan suggestions?
