I've really enjoyed myself with these dance forums, but it was a while before I found this gem. Since there are many forums on different topics and it is a formidable task to find the right ones for each topic I thought it would be useful to take advantage of the experiences of all the df members. So, what other forums people use that are as good as these for their other interests?

Other interests? I might take a peep at work related or specific interest related ones but in the main, it is dance/salsa :D

Ha! Try google groups. There are discussion forums on lots of different topics -- work, science, the arts. And dance, of course. :D

Larinda - You're into herps and snakes? I would have never guessed...I used to be myself for many years...I had a pair of Corn snakes that I raised from hatchling to almost 6 feet...gave them away to a pet store since I couldn't care for them any more. :(

And this was at the same time I had the scorpions too. :)

aha..and therefore your screen name.

I have a chinese water dragon, stl 39 inches. I also have tokay gecko, and some unidentifiable gecko. Two anoles, and two firebelly toads. Also a 55 gallon planted aquarium with dwarf clawed frogs and kuli loaches.

The clawed frogs got me started, actually Steve got me started. We were in a store and there at the checkout counter were little platic cube aquariums with the clawed frogs for sale. I said "Oh wow these are cute!" Steve said "I absolutely forbid you to buy those." We went home and as soon as he got out of the car I drove right back to the store and bought 2!

I have to say that I probably could never have a scorpion. It would terrify me. All of my guys are cute and harmless. Well, actually, the tokay can scare the hoohaw out of me sometimes when I go to clean her tank and she lunges at me.

My ex-wife got me interested in the herps--we rescued an iguana who wasn't getting proper light and food and who had minor metabolic bone disease. And we rescued a 40-year-old redfooted tortoise from a science museum which was "getting rid of" her. Once they've been in captivity, they can't be released into the wild because the chances are too great for them to spread possible infections and destroy whole populations of wild tortoises.

But I can't really keep the herps on my own--the UV requirements and heat regulation and maintenance is just too demanding for my life. But bully for you!

So where's the tortoise now?

I don't really mind the uv and heat or humidity for that matter. What really is a pain is the live feeders. I guess with your ig and tortoise you were making lots of salads. But all of the superworms, crckets, earthworms, cockroaches, waxworms, and occcassional pinkies we keep tend to spook our house guests.

It is really nice hear of herp lovers around here!

Oh, yes! Tort and ig salad! When we went out of town, we used to leave the food prepared for the pet sitter in little plastic bags. It's a lot of work, but you really start to learn things about vegetables you've never heard of before!

As for the live feeders--well, when it comes to that I'm really not "Fear Factor" material. I can't even watch that on television without gagging--although hooray for the ballet dancer who won last night!

Wow. How do you manage that whole menagerie with your travel schedule Larinda?

I was wondering the same Larinda, I'm quite in awe that you have pet herps...most women I know would never get near one! :D

Any lady who is not grossed out by snakes and such is very beautiful and attractive in my book, and if she dances...well that's even better! ;)

The food part can be quite a bit of time. When I had my two Corn snakes, once they got over 5 feet long it became somewhat expensive to feed them. My best strategy was that my parents had about half a dozen outdoor cats that were very good hunters. So as soon as I saw one with a gohper or vole, I'd run out and steal it from them, then feed it to my snakes.

When I had the scorps and the snakes, I had another cage where I bred mice...and would feed these to the snakes and the pinkies to the scorps on occasion.

Then those darn "super" mealworms (Zoophobas)...I used to avoid feeding my pets those as I think those buggers are on steriods!

Eventually I used to call Gaines Cricket Farm and order a huge bag of mealworms...kept my pets fat and happy. :)

My scorps were harmless, but we used to have a big Tokay Gecko that bit the living heck out of me...had half of my finger in its mouth! After that, I wore leather gloves...those lizards can be quite mean when they want to.

Ok, I have to get running...more herp talk later! :)
