Hello,
Does anyone have any bad experiences wearing hoop earrings to competition? Where either a bracelet or sleeve with crystals possible gets caught on the earring while dancing? I want to get really big sparkly hoops but this keeps coming into my mind as a possibility and that would be awful if it happened. I know we try to control arms and hands but I wonder if it happens anyway and it is better to stick with large sparkly stud types that would be less 'dangerous'. Speaking about latin dancing:)

Avoid prong-set rhinestones and you should be OK. They can and do get stuck at the most inopportune moments. Only wear the glued-on kind.

I've avoided hoops for the same reasons. I don't want to get caught on anything (on me or him) and tear an ear. I've looked about for clip hoops, but haven't found any.

I normally wear hoops since I have short hair and any other type of earring doesn't really show. I would agree with avoiding prong set rhinestones, however, if you do need to use those, then try to do without the sleeves. That's what I do.
I have a pair of rhinestone earrings where I bought inexpensive hoops and glued flatbacks to them. They're fairly light on my ears and the stones don't get caught on anything, but I do not wear the earrings in routines with any serious spins, lifts, etc. I think there is too much risk of the hoops becoming caught on something or flying away during turns. I make jewelry for dancers and I won't make the rhinestone hoops for resale. I won't accept the risk for myself, so I don't want to pass the risk on to another dancer.

I've seen pro latin ladies wear large loop earings...I don't know how it feels (might be heavy), I only do standard...but I like the look, gives that exotic look!

I personally wear clip-ons. Even if I had holes for pierced earrings (which I don't), I would not wear them while dancing. Too much potential to get caught on something, and cause an injury, while a clip-on will just slide off. I have met a person who had an earring caught on something and it ripped out of her ear and so she had a scar on her earlobe. And she wasn't even dancing, she was doing something much more mundane (I forgot what it was, but it was still something active, though, like cycling maybe).

I'm with tanya, I only wear clips for comps. I'm wondering Me, would it be possible to make hoops with a clip backing?

I haven't looked into it, but I am open to experimentation!

Yeah, if somebody came up with clip hoop earrings, I would definitely buy and wear them for comps!

I think this is very valuable to know what everyone thinks. I see them wearing them at Balckpool where they must be doing the most extravagant moves and it worries me. I wonder if those dancers maybe found a clip on source...

I've seen the pros wear pierced, but I won't risk it. I've already got my hair caught in my pros necklace, I certainly don't need my ear ripped.

certainly brilliant idea. Probably you could suggest to vendors so they can talk to their designer. Safety certainly important, equally as important as great look:)

My ears are pierced, and I still use clip-ons for competition. But then I'm more a post-style and chandalier-style person anyway. I actually don't own any non-dance hoop earrings, either.

Perhaps I'll ask a vendor at Millennium, I would like to wear hoops...I need the volume next to my face.

Last comp I went to I bought a pair of earrings that were clip ons and they changed them to pierced for me(not hoops). I bet if you ask they could change them in the reverse too. The lady told me to use eylash glue to keep clip ons from falling off.

Seems to me there are a LOT of clip-on hoop earrings available online, doing a quick search. One of first sites that came up, cliptomania, had 114 results for search of hoop. Now, not all of those are applicable (aka, charms for hoop earrings, etc), but they definitely have clip-on hoops.
Now whether you could find them with rhinestones alreayd, or if you'd have to do it yourself, and how much weight of rhinestones the clip could handle, i can't say. That's a bit out of my jewelry experience. :)

I have been told that as well, but it does not work for me so you'll want to be careful. All it did was make my earlobes and earrings sticky. I shattered a brand new pair of earrings right off the bat when one earring flew clean away, despite generous glops of eyelash glue. They weren't hoops though - They were those massive earrings made from large Swarovski stones.

It works for me, too. I use LashGrip brand from Walgreens, it goes on white, but then dries clear. I heard that the glue type which goes on clear does not work as well.

I use lashGrip from comp, works well but sometimes causes some irritation for the back of my ears. So recently I haven't use them actually. But I wear only the small clip ones for standard. So I luckily haven't lose any earrings;) will check out the Walgreen ones:)

etp, have searched the internet for rhinestone hoops of the type that a latin lady would wear on the floor - haven't found anything so far (but yes - they do make clip hoop earrings).
And I also have had good luck with eyelash glue and clips. I use Duo from the local walgreens.

Sounds dangerous to me... I never wear hoop earrings while dancing. period.

Glad you guys brought this up. I have never really worried about it before. I have worn flat hoops on a french wire and never had a problem.

I wear only pierced hoops... for the past few years now. Pro, Pro-am, Bronze though Open, and I never had a problem.

Anyone has a good place they recommend to buy jewelry online? Dont want to wait until the comp and get forced to choose something I dont really like.
thanks
