The 24 hours before precious Aunt Flo arrives mark a minor era of phenomenally BAD DANCING for me. Does this happen to anyone else? Do you think there's a physiological reason for it? Three years of dancing and I dance like I've never danced a step in my life. So disheartening when your first dance of the evening is with a sexy Italian pro and you blow it completely.

Sigh.

One of my (female) Latin coaches explained that internal bodily changes such as a visit from Aunt Flo can really throw off your sense of center and balance.

Makes sense to me...a lot going on for a chica at her core, physically and emotionally, during that time.

Some of us just get very very tired, which doesn't help dance matters much.

Interesting discussion there (mad cow disease aside). Thanks!

During this time I develop temporary tourettes coupled with this strange throw reflex when I pick things up. (Well, okay, not really...) I admit I do become more easily frustrated while practicing. Oh and of course, the costuming is not as comfortable.

That is an interesting comment from the coach about internal changes possibly having an effect on balance and center. I'll watch for that now and see if it is the case for me.
