ballroom gown construction

So i have been looking at various ballroom gowns to get an idea what i like and was wondering how the gown was constructed. I like the triangle idea looking downwards for the top part of the dress, as seen in the first attachment. how were these gowns constructed ? A bodysuit and top of that another layer for the triangles and then you have the skirt layer as well ? Do you have a seam at more or less the waist line to join all the layers together ? ....enquiring mind wants to know.

It's not clear in the first pic whether the skirt is attached to the bodice with a seam, or if the points of the bodice just hang over it (as appears to be the case in the second pic). In the second pic, its almost certain that the skirt is attached to a bodysuit and the other two layers just hang over (first the skirt, then the other layer).
