A friend sent me an email a list of events, with text along the lines of:
"Other congresses supported by WASP! (World Association of Salsa Promoters)"
I googled it  and only one entry came up for it, which was a logo on a french website.
Hmmm. I have my suspicions  about who is behind this but I am not going to say anything until google verifies it. Is this supposed to "validate" some of the many salsa events? Help raise standards? Control who gets involved in promoting/organising events through some sort of membership criteria/who can teach at these events? The end is upon us, I tell ya! If my totally unconfirmed suspicions ARE confirmed, is this going to be some kind of secret squirrel, closed shop network?
Has anyone else come across "WASP!"? Personally, I am not sure I like the acronym very much, is my first reaction, exclamation mark or not!
Do you think the time is right for some sort of "professional body" as you would have with engineers, doctors even people in advertising/marketing?

I'm dying to know who you have in mind, Pacion. But I respect your decision not to say.
If they're not American, whoever they are, they may have no idea that WASP is a common acronym already. Who knows?
Needless to say, I'll google. 8)

I dunno--is WASP the dance version of SPECTRE? SMERSH?

Ack! What an absolutely horendous notion if it's anything other than a support network between promoters . . . yeah, right!

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I don't know how Pygmalion fared, but as mentioned, Google only brought back one site for me.

Thanks  I would rather not use names until I learn more. Don't want to rant about anyone unnecessarily.

Hmm, if it is who I think it is, they are "well read"/"well informed". Even if they didn't know that WASP stands for "White Anglo Saxon Protestant", even the word "wasp" as in bee, which usually involves bee stings and therefore pain - well, not a good mental image for me :? (not that I have been stung or am allergic to them. It is just the "you say", "I think/feel" thingy going on.)

I actually remember seeing this a year ago but they have since taken this site down. :D

 The email he received was just this week! So it looks as though it might have either gone underground for a little while  or, it has been resurrected.
Please PM Pygmalion and I. Enquiring minds would like to know

It really wasn't a huge site so to speak. Just really a blue background with the W.A.S.P logo and list of who belonged to them. I remember it because everytime I would try to go there, it would crash my machine. :x It was just mainly a list of names. At least that was all I could see before the crash. Same people? Same organization? Not sure. But they were located in europe. Hope this helps. :)
