I recently found the DSOL website and was very impressed with their prices - especially since they have an overstock section that has shoes for under $40. So, here's the question: has anyone ever bought shoes from them and how are they as far as comfort and quality go?

I bought shoes years ago. I never recieved them, even after Many Many emails and phone calls. So I cannot comment on the quality of workmanship. But I do have opinions on the company!

I know someone who uses DSOL all the time and likes them very much.

I've ordered several pairs from them. They are not the best quality shoes, but very good value and durable. I use them mostly for practice shoes, but have used them for competition as well.

Had friends who wore them and they were fine, but not as high quality as some of the biggies (supadance, ray rose, etc). More along the lines of Very Fine. Think it is one of those cases of you get what you pay for and will they work for you. Not everyone wants to spend $150+ on each pair of dance shoes.

then they suck if they take customers' money and not ship merchandise! can't believe people could conduct in business like that.

Well it was really at least 6 years ago. I would hope/assume they have cleaned up their business since then... but out of prinicple I won't order from them.

I don't blame you, I would be really upset if people take $$ from me and not deliver product. Just bad business reputation and lost customer confidence.

I have ordered 4 times now from ballroomdancingshoe.com they are along the same lines of DSOL. I have always gotten my shoes under $60.00 and in 4 to 6 days. free shipping. I recommend them ... as I am on a budget and honestly have gotten some great compliments on my shoes.

My wife and I both have DSOL and have had no problems with the shoes, or service. We are relatively new [just over 1 year of lessons] so that is a factor.

One nice thing I heard about DSOL (I believe this is the Co.) they can fulfill unique shoe requirements. I know of someone who required the two shoes be different sizes I believe, and/or with a special heel and they were the only place that would accomdate her needs.
Even though the quality may not be up there with the top names, it sounded like their flexibility helped her immensely. I've never bought or used their products so I have no first hand experience.

Last months I bought a pair of penguin swing dance shoes for show dance as well as two latin shirts. I had already have a penguin swing shoes by a famous makerbut i was not happy with it because it is in dull matt texture. MY shiny DSOL shoes were cheap and fit better than the more expensive brethren; it came from China. The latin shirts were also superb, the better than anything i bopught from China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.

I sell Very Fine shoes in my ebay store, but only the nicer Signature and C Series which are quite nice (not the junky ones they're typically known for).
If you're interested I have a link in my signature :)

I don't find mens penguin swing shoes in your store. In addition, I amtrying tobuy red Latin shoes. Several yrs ago, I saw Allan Tornsberg, dancing with Lecca, and more recently Deilan, wearing totally red out fit with a pair of red Latin shoes. I was so impressed with the red outfit, I have a red suit made. Now I need a par of good red Latin shoes, but I have problem in finding one anywhere including your store.

I do not have my entire selection in my store as the ebay fees eat me alive
By penguin shoes I'm assuming you mean black & whites? I do have those. Any men's or ladies shoes can be custom ordered in any fabric the company has available, which includes red.
I will PM you some men's styles

Is their sizing more like Capezio or supadance?

Well, I have a pair of Very Fine's now and they size approximately like Capezio. I was wondering if DSOLs size the same or differently.

I bought a pair several years back, but since I put many many miles of dancing in them, they didn't last. The upper separated from the sole, and the heels were glued on instead of nailed. Both heels came loose.
As far as budget shoes go, I've tried Capezio, DSOL, and VeryFine. They don't last that well. I bought a pair of Supadance well over a year ago, and they're still going strong even with the heavy use I put them through.
One of our coaches told me I should seriously consider buying a well-made pair, as the initial cost would be cheaper in the long run than replacing cheap ones that wear out fast. Of course, he was right :)
I have bought shoes from dance shoes on line and I think the difficulty for me is the sizing. I have some that are a bit too big and it would not be worth shipping it back to china so I put innersoles in them to make them fit. They have certainly last the distance so far. I think if you are new to dancing it is a cheap way of getting shoes, if you are going to continue in dancing I think buying a good pair is a worthwhile investment

Your coach was correct. However it is not only the durability, it is also how they treat your feet. If you wear a cheaper pair on the floor for a while, you will feel the difference. I have a pair of Capezio Latin heels and I can't even wear them for social dancing, as they provide no support for my feet. I also find the heels give no support whatsoever, and I have been dancing in Latin heels for several years. It's a good way to roll an ankle.
I carry and wear Supadance and Stephanie and both give me what I need.

The Supadance shoes I own have a small bit of cushioning within the heel that definitely makes a difference.

I have about 5 different pairs of the DSOL and my kids and husband each have a pair. I have one that I consider my west coast sandals and I also have a similar style in supadance and the DSOL ones are a little roomier. I have also returned stuff there and had no trouble.
