Spotting when spinning - it seems to me that it rolls of the tongue of many a teacher "spot when spinning" and many people took for granted.
Here is something I came across, with the help of Google
Whereas the French school emphasized refinement, the Italian school was more athletic; its dancers developed powerful calves and thighs. The Italian school pushed technique to the limit in order to achieve dazzling virtuosic feats. The Italians had a secret weapon, a closely guarded trade secret, for turning multiple pirouettes: spotting. They also had better shoes
My carbon dating guess? Early 1900s, late 1880s? I wonder what they did before  Does anyone know of any dance tips/technique that we take for granted today, but it was revolutionary in it's time?
