Hey, I joined this site a while ago and then sorta forgot about it for a while. Thats pretty embarrassing.. But I do love reading everyone's posts. You are all so intelligent and funny! Ok, seriously not trying to be a suckup, just love this site...
Anyway. I have been dancing ballroom for maybe 4 or 5 years in group classes. And just last year someone approached me about regular partnering (usually our teacher just assigns us a partner for an upcoming comp). Well then he graduated, and now my regular partner is my younger brother. Aw.
I was curious to see if anyone else is partners with their sibling...We're pretty much the only brother/sister couple at my studio, perhaps because most people would prefer to dance with their husband, or wife. But our teacher said it was pretty common.
So, anyone?

Not ballroom, but in Salsa, Junior and Emily Alabi are a brother-sister duo who teach, compete and perform as a dance-couple. There are always some raised eyebrows about this - but they are one of the best, and competence silences critics and naysayers like nothing else does. I'm sure you'll find other precedents if you look around.

It's common enough to not be considered weird. Don't worry about it -- how lucky for you both, actually!

It is common enough, but not required. ;)
Markus and Mariia Hirvonen (http://dancesportinfo.net/Couple/4683/Details.aspx) are one up and coming brother and sister team.

a LOT of the eastern european pros I know competed at one time or another with their sibling.
Sister and I aren't even involved at same studio, but always get a lot of compliments when we're dancing during genenral dance or something. Now, I wouldn't do something like a rumba with her, but our personalities and relationship make for a really fun jive :)
Benji Schwimmer and Heidi Groskewitz (sp!) danced and competed together for many years and they're cousins.

Clive Phillips and Karen McDonald, brother sister team who were US Finalists.
Our very own Star_Gazer has two beautiful kids that dance quite successfully together.

I've seen two father-daughter couples. One was pro-dad/am-daughter, and the other one was an am-am couple.
