Let me clarify - I have absolutely no problem dancing with older men. Non what-so-ever. However, once in a while, it's nice to talk to and be able to relate to the people around me while I'm not dancing. Most places I've been to have a median attendance age of mid to late 40's. And while most of the people that age and older, I find absolutely fascinating to speak with - once in a while, I would like to see people my own age - even not necessarily dance partners. Now that I got that out of my system, here's the question: For all of you New Jersians out there, do you know of any studios around central jersey that have some younger attendants at their socials - male or female? or as my friend put it - socials that draw in a slightly younger crowd.

we have some that come to ours.

but i must also say that one of the most charming & energetic social partners i've ever had was a spry gent of 94... don't write the elders off. :)

Are there any college teams nearby that have social dances?

It might just take checking out different studio dances. In my area, there are definitely one or two studios that seem to attract a lot of young people...and it may have to do with the fact that some of the teachers also coach college teams.

I am 32 and typically the youngest at the ballroom socials that I attend in Central NJ, aside from the pros. Have a great time with all ages, but understand where you are coming from. I have not been, but maybe some others have...Brian Nash works with the Rutgers team, so once a month during the school year, he hosts a social at Rutgers vs at his own studio in North Jersey. That might have a good mix of college and older folks. Also, Princeton has a pretty active ballroom team, though not sure of their social schedule...might be worth investigating as well. My studio has been hosting a live swing band social monthly lately and that crowd is all ages, but has a fairly large younger audience...I just can't do all that swing for all those hours...I prefer a mix.

I'm over in Philly and the only events with younger crowds I've come across are either college ballroom groups and swing dance groups. That said, Rutgers runs some pretty fun social dances up in New Brunswick.

DP/GF and I are 30 and 29 respectively, and for the longest time we were nearly ALWAYS the youngest at any dance we went to.

This year we got in a new crop of people at the studio, and thankfully now have several more around our ages to dance with and relate to.
