It's quite common for us gals to ask around how a product perform before we purchase it, so I would like to start a thread to collect websites that provide helpful review/rating of beauty products.
I found out this one yesterday: girlfriends dot com - very interesting, they provide reviews of products by categories such as eyes, lips, faces, foundations, etc. Highest rating products on front pages.
also makeupalley dot com have a messager board which allows reader to post questions related to beauty products;)
Hope this helps:)

I watch makeupalley.com regularly. It is great for reviews, because you can look for a specific product and then sort the results by age or skintype etc., so you get the reviews of users who are closer to your own type. I think you need to be a member in order to use all these tools, though. (I've been a member for eons, it seems).
Like all these boards, you need to be careful. A lot of people just post to see themselves in print. I am always in awe of a person who starts out by saying "I am not a floral-type person, and gardenias give me a headache, but here is my review of the latest gardenia-type perfume. [insert blah blah]. I don't like it."
It's entertaining, if nothing else.

Thanks for the input. What do you mean by "A lot of people just post to see themselves in print"? you mean you could get a lot of unwanted solicitations or junk emails?

She gave an example of what she meant...the whole thing about the person not liking gardenias.
If someone dislikes flower scents and says gardenias give them a headache, then why are they bothering to review the latest gardenia perfume? One possible answer: they just like to see themself in print.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I don't get junk email because of registering with makeupalley. You have to visit there to know what I mean. Many people write not-so-useful reviews, and it makes you wonder why they bother. But even the giddy, silly reviews are fun to read. And the good ones (and there are many) are very, very useful. I had to train myself not to run to the nearest makeup counter to buy the latest and greatest product, and believe me, it's a struggle. I'm still trying to convince myself that this great hair serum and that wonderful eyeshadow are NOT going to make me younger or prettier (especially the former). :-)

Ooh can't wait to check out the ones you guys recommended.
I like this site for reviews: cosmeticscop.com
Where Paula tries and reviews skincare and makeup. Also shows price range.
