View Full Version : Ladies Latin Styling and Female Pros in NY or NJ...need suggestions...

My pro is going on vacay for last two weeks of August. Thought it might be a good opportunity to take a lesson or two with a female pro (latin) in the NY or NJ area...one with excellent style who might be able to help me find that salt/pepper I've been looking for...from a female perspective.
Anyone have any suggestions? Either in the city or pretty much anywhere in NJ since I'm centrally located. If you can also provide contact details or studio where I can find them, that would be great.
Thanks in advance!

I would, after getting some suggestions here, look on youtube and see whose style you like. I have had a couple of lessons with Beata, Yulia and Irina Boubenskaya and liked them all. I think Irina is headed out of the country for a couple of weeks but she may be back the last week. Check out her vid on youtube. I really enjoyed working with her and she was relatively inexpensive (I took my lessons in Brooklyn, but I'm pretty sure she teaches somewhere in NJ -- maybe Old Bridge?? as well).

Thanks, MQ. Think Beata and Yulia teach out of 101 when around - had those two on my short list, but wasn't certain of their crazy schedules...will add Irina on that list.
I am very intimidated I must admit...all nice ladies to work with in addition to excellent dancers?!?

Absolutely; I wouldn't be intimidated at all. They're just human beans same as us ;). I would just have an idea in your head about what you want to work on.

Not sure where Montville is, NJD, but Nadia Goulina has her studio there, I believe.

I know...just in awe of their dancing is all. Will come up with a couple of things that I'd like to work on and take it from there.

Good suggestion, ETP...think that is north of me, but doable...

There's a very good 10 dance couple that owns a studio in Hillsborough. If that sounds doable, let me know and I'll pm you the details.

Thanks LD...know exactly who your talking about ;)...have taken workshops there from him in the past. My pro teaches there (indie) as well - when I'm doing Standard lessons, we do them there since they have a very nice sized floor.

I am not exaggerating, but the female dancer in this website is, IMHO, by far the best Latin dancer and instructor: divinoritmodance.com
She happens to be in NJ/NY in the last 2 weeks of August, then competes in Capital followed by the USBC. If you need more info about her, please pm me.

I highly recommend Kristina Staykova, who doesn't have the profile of Yulia or Beata, but who teaches a highly detailed approach to Latin styling that works for those of us who had no idea where to start. She teaches out of Dance NY mostly.

Yes - there are plenty of lower-profile teachers who are excellent dancers and instructors as well. I work with a couple of females in the Boston area that you probably would never have heard of but have helped me tremendously.
Contracheck - Where does that lady teach? Many of their links are broken; can't really get much information (other than bios) there.

She moved to Honolulu in last May to run Hawaian Star Ball, but periodically comes to NJ/NY by popular demand. Among other things, she is a Special Traveling Coach for Arthur Murray, and therefore she has a large number of students here. For further info, please pm me.

Sambagirl - is she on staff at Dance NY or is she independent (as most are there I believe)? Do you have her contact details?

Sorry for the delay in my reply -- on vacation without Internet access. Kristina is independent and you can reach her at kristinastaykova at gmail.com. Tell her Arlene sent you.

I've had lessons w/ Kristina Staykova, too, and think she is wonderful to work with on styling and feeling and technique in general. PM me if you would like her cell phone #.
