Undoubtedly, we'll need a runoff for this one. We've already had ten different events suggested, and no one has even suggested any salsa events yet.

Not sure how to approach this, because with so many choices, I suspect any results we get will be diluted. Hmm.

Well, here goes. What event would you prefer to attend?

Hmm. Doesn't anyone care to vote for where we go next? I guess Cambridge it is ...

Shoot... it's too hard to just pick one. Can't we just recall six for a final round, then rank ordinally? Don't we have an independent scrutineer/accounting firm among us to do this? :)

P.S. Besides, some of us have to check calendars and make sure we can do some of these events. Not to mention... money.

:? Maybe I shouldn't have voted, not sure. I wouldn't compete in anything, just be interested in watching the show. :)
I picked an Atlanta event simply because I'm cheap and didn't want to go too far. :?

Heck, I'm a left coaster and I picked Yankee because theirs an outside chance I might be back in Boston around that time...

This first round is just for screening, and I think the more votes we get, the better.

How about Diamond DanceSport in September?????????? It's here in Florida and it happens the weekend of my birthday. 8)

Not to take anything away from your birthday, but if you guys were to do something in FL in September I'd think the USDSC would be a better bet...

From a dance perspective, I'm sad to say I agree. (Plus Super Bimmer has already bought his tickets/entries for USDSC :D )

From an add-on vacation perspective, Orlando's much more diverse than Miami/Hollywood. I've done both.

Ooops, guess my hard-core dance perspective is showing again!

1. 2004 NYC salsa congress...

There is also the New York New Jersey Salsa Congress (http://www.nynjsalsafestival.com/) on Thanksgiving weekend 26-29 November.

More food for thought. South FL has a fantastic Argentine tango scene and arguably one of the best salsa scenes in the country. (Right up there with LA and NYC)

Orlando's advantages? Mickey Mouse and Shamu. LOL. Of course, those ARE advantages if you're taking vacation time. On top of which, I would host the "party," if it was in my backyard. I'm just not convinced that 's the best we can do, dance-wise.

I'm sure there are also some hot lookin' chicks in south Florida too. :)

Okay, I guess the guys are probably nice there too. :D

As for Orlando... perhaps.

With the exception of July and November, Care and I are booked for events/competitions for the rest of the year through World's In January 2005.

I take it that the Pitt Stop (November) is solely Lindy, and the Virginia Dancesport (July) is strictly ballroom (pun int.)???

Um, folks. We have to decide something ...before all the hotel rooms get booked up.

Well...I finally voted...for The Yankee Classic!

Sagitta
04-28-2004, 01:11 AM
Am I correct in my understading of the Yankee classic? Basically you compete or watch people compete. No dancing available?

Warren J. Dew
04-28-2004, 10:08 PM
There is some general dancing at the Yankee, but yes, it's mostly competing and watching competitions and the show.

pygmalion
04-29-2004, 06:46 AM
Hmm. That's fine with me. There's tons of night life in the Boston/Cambridge area, if you're so inclined.

I'll probably be at either Capital or Virginia State....

You guys have to let me know if you'll be at either of those....

Looks like the Yankee Classic is winning. Anyone who knows some reason that this competition should not be joined, speak now, or forever hold your peace.

No one else is speaking, but perhaps a runoff is in order based on the poll?

pygmalion

Okay. I'll set up a run-off poll. Thanks for the suggestion.

DancePoet

Hey pygmalion, am I missing the runoff poll some where?

(And it looks like Yankee is pulling into the lead at this point on this thread.)

I've been too swamped to set it up. will do tonight. 8)

SDsalsaguy
06-04-2004, 03:52 AM
OK, I don't know about a poll, but I'll actually be there!

(No idea where I'll find a bed/couch to crash on yet, but all in good time, right? )

Sorry, DancePoet. My DF do list has just gotten too long for me keep up with everything. :( Twenty-five hours a week and counting. No, that's not an exaggeration.

I'll set up a thread today so that people who are going can coordinate. I'll also set up a poll, to see if other events in the future might work. I've gotten a couple PM's suggesting C&W or swing events, as well.

I met SD at Yankee, but seems like that was covered somewhere else before. Won't be making it to the salsa congress mentioned nor FL.

It looks like several smaller, informal get togethers over the course of a year works best.
