View Full Version : Amatuer Competetions in September

We were looking at our options for September competition wise. Unlike August which was packed with comps to do, September seems slow. We looked at Heartland classic but there isn't anyone in our division. Would anyone like to offer some advice? What are our open standard couples from DF doing in September?
Does Cleveland Dancesport (Sep 18, 2008 - Sep 20, 2008 ) offer any chance for competition?
Also I'm still interested in knowing this:

I have cleveland dancesport and Heartland classic (in Indiana) listed on my calendar as only "local" comps here in September. You're right, not a whole lot.

I think September became a slow month because USA Dance Nationals used to be in August, and then USDSC at the beginning of September, so if anyone is going to take a little break it's going to be in mid-September.

In this area, Windy City also moved from September last yera to the end of August this year. Obviously, not size of those, but effects us here. :)

Don't give up on Heartland. They've had a pretty full field that past couple of years when LW and I were spectators. This year, we're volunteering.

This is the first year that Heartland has had O2CM registration. It's possible that couples in your division have registered off-line and the registrar hasn't added them to the system yet.

We were thinking of galaxy but it seemed small from looking at the website, but now we will have to rethink this one.

It is small but I am hoping that we can find other amateur standard couples to go. My kids danced in it a couple years ago and it was a very well run competition. Its only a 600 mile drive for us :) and Southwest has reasonable flights.

Canada Dancesport in Kingston Ontario, September 18-20. It is an IDSF comp, so there will be some very good dancers there. Kingston is about halfway between Montreal and Toronto.

do you go to US open? since not many other comps in September, US Open is worth going.

We are considering it. We are doing windy city the week before. There isn't a pre champ division at USDSC so it would be strictly champ for us. So we are weighing the options.

It's on the ZSConcepts Calendar and the DanceSport Facebook group calendar. Online registration. There are currently already two couples entered into Champ Standard...I don't know about previous years.

No, just getting the OP to clarify what she is seeking, in order to enable a targeted response.

From meeting her and talking to her on other threads, my understanding is that she is just like any of us, looking for comps with relatively larger am couples participation which provides more floor experience;)

Just received a registration package for Stardust Open (Sept 18-21) in Atlantic city, NJ, open am is Sat night (9/20) at 8:30. Is this one big am/am comp?

that would make two couples in open am..

deadline 9/3. $50 for open am.

can't find any prior year results from dancesportinfo. also their site doesn't have "winner's circle" from PY. maybe a new comp?

hereKittyKitty
08-21-2008, 01:36 PM
I don't think it is a new comp because of this quote on their home page "We cater mostly to the Pro/Am competitors and try to add new & exciting events for you each year." And they have photos from last year. I don't think its been around for long though.
But with two couples already entered in open amateur standard, it may be better to do this one instead of heartland classic with no couples in open amateur standard. I'll put it on my list of possibilities.

we are not sure yet, might go, just received registration stuff in the mail, haven't done anything yet. Just posting the event for general discussion purpose;)

Actually the photos are from the American Star Ball that the same orgainzer does in NJ also. I thought maybe this was a new comp as well.... looks like a great location.

Are you sure there are no open couples at Heartland. It is really strange not to have anyone dancing this category. The category was pretty full the last time we did this comp. I wonder if there is an issue with the website... It is just so weird. Did you EMail them and ask?

Standarddancer

yap same organizer as American star ball. Heartland sounds unfamiliar to me and so does this one, really not sure which one might get more participation

Ah I see. Maybe it is a new comp.

I'm going to sign up for heartland and see if they add anyone to the list. It seems weird to me. With such a big competition you would expect to have a few couples in Adult I open am standard.

Its a USA Dance event. I try to keep our Competition and Event Guide (http://www.dance-forums.com/competitions/) up to date with NDCA as well as USA Dance events. So if your ever looking for a competition, try looking at our calendar. Also if I'm ever missing a competition please pm me and I will add it.

They don't list our event on the home page. With o2cm you have to use the search function above the entry list. You have to search by Amateur/Adult/Open/Standard
Then our lone entries display:?

thank you:) I see, DF calendar is the one combines the USA dance & NDCA with link to comp site, cool:)

Do you think it could be good to add comps from ballroomregistrar.com (mostly college comps but some of them quite large am participation in open level) to it? just a thought. don't feel obligated to comply. I know it's gonna to be a heck lot of extra work for staff.

do you think worth for you to go Heartland? Heartland usually small, searched past results, 3 couples in 2007 and 4 couples in 2006 and so far doesn't seem to be much participation as of now:( you still have to take flights from Altanta to Indiapolis, don't you? maybe come to Stardust? at least kitty will be going and us and kat might go too.

nope. right now nothing because not yet school semester. I'm sure you will see comps listed after Sept fall semester starts. sorry forgot to mention, no events in summer since no school;) in spring and fall this site is busy with events. Usually affortable and some of them really large am participations such as harvard, MIT, DCDI, etc.
