So, who here is going to the Emerald Ball in LA at the end of the month?

I'll be there, but you see enough of me already, right?
Last year the amateur smooth championship was a semi-final, so I can't miss that. Also, the national-champions-to-be showed up, so it'll be cool if they're there again, to turn the field up a notch.
I guess it doesn't hurt to be a spectator at that comp either

no, unfortunately we have a family commitment that particular weekend. We were really looking forward to Emerald and staying after for a few days with some of our dancing friends in LA. I guess we will have to make a trip out later in the season.

Anybody interested in seeing Laetitia and I get wasted at Emerald Ball :? can check out our video clips here:

Acutally, we're pretty pleased with pulling off some of the new things we've been working on, so it's onward and upward from here (we hope).

Good luck at moving up to the next challenge, Porfirio. :D I have to go to my other computer, the one with all the software loaded, to see your clips.

Golly! You guys are beautiful! My computer had the sound turned off when I watched your clips, and I could still see and count what dances you were dancing. I could feel the twooooos. Your arm styling (both of you) was just gorgeous. You're two beautiful dancers. And I don't say that unless I mean it. I'm no pro judge, it's true, but I'm picky in giving blanket compliments. The two of you are beautiful.

I also thought it was appropriate that our most active DF poster and the first member of out current Ballroom moderating team was the one to make the 6,000th Ballroom post. Way to go Jenn!!! (And I won't even tell you how many posts Ballroom would have absent your contributions...  )

Thanks, SD. You have no idea how much DF has added to my life -- dancewise and otherwise -- in the past seven months. I'm so glad to be here! :D
And thanks to all you new and not-so-new ballroom posters in DF. It looks like we're finally coming into our own, thanks to you. 8) :D

I'll second that opinion. You have very delightful choreography. I'm quite impressed.

Thanks for the compliments. It's kind of cool that some video vendors are making DVD's, so this makes the web publishing process so easy :-)
As for the events I got to watch, professional rhythm was awesome. I'm so used to seeing the run-of-the-mill rhythm events, where nothing too exciting happens. In contrast, the dancers at Emerald were in such great shape! Bob and Julia were amazing, as usual, and the marks were shaken up by Tony Dovolani and Inna taking one dance from the champions.
Anyway, that was the most *******ing part of the night for me :-)

That would have been something to see. I guess it was bound to happen eventually.
Porfirio, I enjoyed watching your videos and I especailly liked your foxtrot. Your partner looks so flexible! Great job, and thanks for sharing!

Congratulations Porfirio, your videos were great to watch, thanks for sharing.
Regarding the video company, I had asked on regular video vendor here on the east coast about DVD, and was told that it would be awile before they are ready to try it. So I guess us Easterners are going to have to wait.

I actually intended to buy a video, and brought my tape for them to tack this latest comp on the end, but they said that they didn't use others' tapes, so I figured if I got the DVD, I could just copy it onto the tape when I got home. Needless to say, the other benefits are being able to duplicate copies with the computer as well as publish the clips to the web (with fewer steps).

Did you have any problems with your video or with the video company Porfirio? I had lunch with someone on Sunday who did not have a happy story...

Well, I only posted video of the Final on the web, but in the Semi footage, they didn't find me right away, even though I was the first one called out onto the floor, so I ended up with some "spy" footage of the other couples during waltz. Also, the video will kind of hang at certain times during playback in my DVD player. So, given the price that you have to pay to be taped by a vendor with an exclusive contract, I would say that there was some room for better service. Especially since they wouldn't use my tape that I brought... how many tapes am I supposed to have in my library at home only 1/10th used by a ballroom comp?

Hi Ultra Magnus. Welcome. :D
Do you, by any chance, like Transformers? :D
Welcome to the forums. How was your Emerald Ball experience? Good, I hope. 8)

Emerald was great. A lot of great dancers and people. (Yes to the transformers) I also had one skip on my DVD but that is it. I let them know so they can get a RAM and CPU upgrade. The guy was willing to listen on how to fix it. Other than that, I would much more prefer to get DVD's. We danced in Amateur Novice Latin, Amateur Pre-Championship Latin and Amatuer Open Championship Latin. The level of dancing was definately worth the trip.

Cool. I think I'll be at the USDSC in September. I don't know if you and your partner wil be there, but if so, let me know so we can meet up.
btw, Have you seen the new Transformers Energon figures? Kinda lame, compared to the classics, if you ask me.  *shrug*

Good, so far. I'm picking up my latin dress tomorrow (had it made), so I'll only have a short time in practicing with it, plus the new shoes. Should be interesting. I'm pretty calm (so far) about this one; it's next month's that will put me a little more on edge.
What I'm finding a little more helpful this time is that I know many more of the women at the studio, so having them there in support will definitely be helpful. My first (and only) other comp I didn't know a soul, and frankly, I didn't feel a whole lot of "love" from my instructor at the time. So, in those respects, I'm in better shape.
I have two more privates this week and then I'm as ready as I'm going to be. My instructor gives me the attitude that "they all have to beat us!"
Anyway, I thank you all for your help, tips, etc. I had my hair cut shorter and it's a little redder than it was a week ago. I have my extra pantyhose, too!
I'll keep you posted!
