View Full Version : OSB Rising Star schedule?

So today my teacher was talking about me going with him to Ohio. I took a look at the schedule, and based on the times in the Winners Circle from 2007 it seems that the Pro Rising Star Standard and the Pro/Am "B" Standard Scholarship were running at the same time. One event had three rounds and the other had four, one started at 8:57am and the other at 9:33am, so there is no way that these two events were not being interleaved.

I just emailed the organizers to see if there's any intention to schedule these so they don't interleave, because obviously it's rather impractical to expect my teacher to go back and forth between his pro partner and me. Just as obviously, it seems to me that no matter how they try to schedule things, there's a big chance of that kind of conflict due to the numbers of people and events involved.

Sigh, it just doesn't look possible for me to dance the Scholarship in this comp until the teacher stops doing Rising Star :(

I've occasionally wondered about the time-stamps on the results that are posted. I am going to keep more meticulous track this year, but I'd swear that the 2nd to last event one afternoon has results posted with a time-stamp of 10:10 a.m. For now I'm not putting any stock into those times.

Begs a question actually. Anyone out there know EXACTLY what time they danced at and compared it to the time-stamp on the results posted?

It's been a few years since the last time I went to OSB, but if memory serves, they RARELY run down-to-the-minute on time. I recall one year waiting 45 past my call time for the Bronze Adult A 3-dance rhythm category :(

But that stinks that the two events overlap...who knows, maybe the schedule isn't set in stone. Or maybe your pro will just do REALLY bad in Rising Star and will rush back to dance B-scholarship with you! Just kidding

Well, I just discovered what an incredible idiot I am about dates. I thought OSB was a week earlier than it really is. Due to this, I simply cannot do it :(

No wonder why it was so incredibly easy for me to find a hotel room.

D'oh.

I never got to do the pro-am rising star competition at OSB, pro competed Friday and Saturday evening in pro events and I didn't want to ask him to expend more energy on pro-am between the two. Always thought it would be cool though to do the event!

Pro RS Standard is 9-ish in the morning?????

That just doesn't sound right...

Yep, there is no Sunday night session, so all the Pro Rising Star and Pro/Am Scholarships are crammed into Sunday morning and afternoon, along with a few Amateur events.

Huh. Any idea why that pro event couldn't be run Friday or Saturday nite. Seems so...disrespectful...for that caliber of dancing.

No time. The schedule is very very full due to the number of rounds in all events, plus having time for the showdance competitons and TV taping. The comp starts on Tuesday...OSB is HUGE. I guess if they cancelled the Pro/AM Scholarships they could start the Pro Rising Star events later in the day. Its not like they can push the Pro/AM Scholarship back to the day when the Pro/Am single dances are run -- those days already start god awful early. Really, this schedule is packed to the gills, I'm very sure they are doing the best they can. But when you've got four rounds of something, it takes a long time to work though it:

first round -- 30 or 40 minutes (depends on number of heats)
20 minute break
quarter-final -- 20 minutes (unless it's run in 3 heats, which I've seen, so that would be 30 minutes)
20 minute break
semi-final -- 10 minutes
20 minute break
final -- 10 minutes

So to get through a four round event, it takes a MINIMUM of 130 minutes (2 hours+).

Amen to that! I always looked forward to watching ALL of the pros compete during the evening sessions...although it did get a bit cumbersome. I think I stayed until 1 am watching the pros one year, and my heat was the first one the next morning! Ouch :x

Are they not using Battelle Hall this year?

I'm betting they are, only that the hall has been renamed "Exhibit Hall C" - - - that's my guess, with the presumption there's NO WAY they would NOT use that ballroom (whatever the name of it).

Anyone know for sure otherwise?

Oh yeah! Bring lots of "shopping" money. If you have an uncommon shoe size the shoe vendor 'Showtime' will (if you call ahead) bring a box of goodies for you to try on... ALL in your special size. No obligation at all either.

I only ask because the layout for the GCCC (http://www.columbusconventions.com/info/exhibition.asp) shows the Hyatt, Battelle and the food court across the street from "Exhibition Hall C," which appears to have even more capacity than Battelle.

LOL, that was my pro 3 years ago, scurrying between two students in different age divisions...poor guy was darn near BEAT by time the two of us finished our events :( And then he had to dance pro later that evening! God bless pros and their endless patience and stamina :notworth:

I've already said on this thread that it turns out that I'm not going at all because I was confused as to which weekend OSB is, and cannot attend the week that it really is.
