Welcome welcome welcome ray... Ahhhh, choose choose, are we talking about music or the dance. Hmmm, ahhh, ahhhh, hmmmm, as youngsta, I just can't choose. But I can say that I can't stand dancing to MamboJazz.

Welcome, Ray! :D :D :D
Salsa or mambo--are we gonna have another one of those which is which on 1 on 2 club or ballroom discussions now?
I do "salsa" on 1 and I do "mambo" on 2, but when I'm clubbing it, it all depends on what I hear in the music.

No Ray, as I discovered, once someone has voted in the poll, you can't modify it/add stuff. :D
I thought it was "agreed" that mambo and salsa was the same thing, or did I get confused somewhere along the line?
LOL.. now you now the difference ? :D
you dont want me to tell you.. right ?
well personally i like On2 (mambo) more.. because you can throw more feeling in it :P

First off, let me add my welcome Ray! :D
As far as this staetement, however...
well personally i like On2 (mambo) more.. because you can throw more feeling in it :P
No, no, and NO! Maybe you, personally, can throw more feeling into it -- because that's what you hear and what makes sense to you in the music, but the idea that *how* you count changes how much feeling you can use? Please!

Oh yes, and welcome Ray! I am forgetting my manners amidst the confusion of "the difference between salsa and mambo" or should it be "mambo and salsa" as mambo came first
yes your right..
but if i see a salsadancer.. and a mambo dancer..
dunno .. gives me tremblings :P
but maybe i cant see it still yet.. i just discovvered the "clave"
and its important to have it.. (well not really if you dance allready all your life) but things come clear slowly
still i dunno why.. but On2 gives more expression ...
and.. about what is coming first.. ehmm.. i really dunno hehe.. i only see the dance.. and try to discover the background of the salsa..

That's okay Ray  There is enough controversey, in my opinion, surrounding the origins of mambo/salsa to fill 1,000 books and then another 1,000 more
I understand what you mean re feeling "On 2" though. But, to me (in this state of learning I am in, which does not make it right!) salsa is mambo, irrespective of the count. That there are variations is no different to ballet that has different "styles" or schools - italian, the famous russian, british... the list goes on. Then you have modern ballet and all the variations from that.
well in my coutnry.. they give the enimals a name hehe...
so if you dance on2 they realy ment mambo.. and on1 Salsa..
but.. at the end.. whe all call it salsa.. thats true
normally they say.. lets go to a salsa party not mambo party hehe
well atleast not here :P

Same here in London. Salsa seems to be the "marketing" term  In my opinion, the steps are the same, it is just the count/emphasis that is different :? either way, I will still have some of it :D
like NY -style or LA-style
:D

Actually, Pacion, we've all been PMing each other about it, and yes we have reached a final conclusion, but we all voted not to tell you!

One word whose various permutations I would never presume to apply to you, Pacion, is "easy."

 Oh really?
Moonlight was made for a June night
And June nights were made , dear,
for love and romance
For heavenly kisses, for lips sweet and tender
On this night of splendour
You're so far away
Come closer to me so I can see
heaven in your eyes
Come closer to me so I can be
close to Paradise
Thrill me with your kisses
Let me learn what bliss is
Kiss me once and then we'll kiss and kiss again
And life will be divine
Come closer my dear
So I can hear
music in my heart
I've waited so long to hear
the song that youre love will start
Darling I'll adore you
Live my life just for you
All I ask is this
please give me one more kiss
and whisper you'll be mine
Come closer to me (etc... )

Oh, yeah?
Was there truly in that afternoon
No sorcery, when the leaves between us
In the October garden fell like words
Through the long sun before the gathering winter;
Was there no enchantment but your imputation?
I was a name inconstant; I had come,
Unlooked for, from the shifting sea, my face
A field for doubting, my tales untrustworthy;
You believed, and therewith I was credible.
And that stern evening, speaking of snares
Where the hunter had fallen, where even the wise might fall,
Or speaking, in November, of primroses,
When doubt possessed me, and my eyes fell
To a merciless winter of bleak words, yet you
Beyond words believed me to be a gentle
Season, and I, as from sleep returning,
Was thence the sign and green wind of spring.

I think firstly, before any courting, you should concentrate on showering before expressing said affection! :uplaugh: :uplaugh:  :uplaugh:

in terms of music.. both
in terms of dance.. salsa (more variety and allows for more freestyling in my view)
