I have been waiting for this months issue to come in... It still isn't here. Has anyone else gotten theirs???? I was wanting to know what was said about Volunteer State in the open Scholarship.. I am always nervous about what they might say about my dancing.... Sure would like to know if they even put a review or not...:p:p:p:p

Its available for digital download if you don't want to wait. Most of the coverage is of Manhattan but coverage for volunteer starts on page 40.

I was hoping I'd get to read about myself because I danced an "A" Scholarship for once *and* did quite well in it...and it seems they didn't even mention it when they talked about the comp (not Volunteer State, a different one). Oh well...I'll have to keep waiting for my next 15 minutes of fame. Last time I got mentioned for my dancing (as opposed to for working at a comp) was in 2002.

Actually I think I've noticed a trend in DanceBeat that they are no longer giving pro-am much coverage. They may list the results and give a quick summary of the major winners, but unfortunately no detailed coverage of the pro-am scholarships. It's too bad, I always looked forward to reading the constructive criticism that most of the pro-am reviewers included for each couple in the final in their coverage - it was a great learning tool.

OK<<<<< I have signed up for the online Dancebeat. NOw it keeps saying wronge password.... I even tried it again and ordered it under another email. So, now I have paid for it twice online and once in the mail. But, still can't read it .... Can you just tell me if it said anything about me in the open scholarship...That way I can just get over it...

I just got the latest issue in the mail. It's huge !

There is an announcement that Paul Killick is now partnered with Oksana Zolotarevskaya.

There is an Ad for Dmitri Timokhin and Natalia Petrova. Looks like she is at a studio in GA. Did he move here too or does he travel back and forth.

I think it sort of depends on the comp and who's writing about it. I got my issue today, and Chicago Crystal Ball barely got half a page with no pro-am coverage whatsoever (but they did comment on the split floor for standard), and Volunteer State has way more coverage.

Lots of DFers in this issue! In addition to cantskiforlife and Larinda...

Nik and Natasha got (at least) two nice write-ups, in both the report on the North American Championships by K. Todd (page 28) and in the write-up on Millennium by Maks Chmerkovskiy (page 53). Interestingly, both say that they personally would have placed Nik and Natasha higher than where they finished. Sounds good to me! ;)

Also saw Kitty and Katarzyna mentioned, and of course Chris Johnston, whose student Joan got a great write-up by Didio Barrera on page 41. Nice pic of them too.

Probably others as well, as I'm still perusing!

It could be that neither Didio nor Keith judged or played music at the event. Many if not all the organizers get them because of their reporting in Dance Beat. It's the power of the press. To get a good report you have to play the game. They parlayed the paper into a pretty consistant way of getting judging jobs and many other perks. More power to them.

If the organizer doesn't get either one of them, he or she has to ask some of the judges to write the reports. Many are not adept at writing, nor do they relish the idea of even doing the report. Therefore, the result is a half page or maybe one page in Dance Beat. This also has the result of a not so glowing and blah report. So the easy way out is to hire either Didio or Keith and play the game.

Congrats! Larinda & Cantskiforlife!

Just curious, is the online edition the samething as the newspaper except the photos are in color? I think we have to pay separately to get the online one, right? I only subscribed the newspaper.

I get both online and paper, same content - can't remember right now if photos are in color in online (can check for you if it's important).

Looks like online edition is $28/yr, print is $39.50/yr, and both is $53.50/yr. I have online edition and have to remember periodically to download latest edition. The cover and ads in downloaded pdf version are in color, but it appears competitor photos are b/w. Are they color in printed version?
