I've heard good things about it though I've yet to go. It seems it's not yet on everybody's radar... I'll update this once I've gone... unless others here have been and want to chime in... :-)

For those interested, I went there for my first time last night. I arrived around 9:30p, and at first thought "ugh, this is going to suck!" I didn't see any of my friends there, and I only saw one familiar salsero face. The rest of the crowd appeared to be couples/groups sitting at tables.
But eventually the place filled up and by 10:30p there was a good crowd there and a number of single dancers looking to find a partner. And I also began to see more regulars from the NYC salsa club scene (but not many from the NYC salsa "socials" scene).
The venue is really nice on a warm night, as it is outdoors with a tent covering. The music (DJ) was really good with someone playing the conga as well. The view is spectacular, as you can see a number of the bridges lit-up. And there are hammocks alongside the dance floor, and under the stars, for people to swing on. I think after 9:00p, the admission is $10.
I hope more people start to go there, but I think because it's an outdoor venue, it only runs until November 12.
Again, it's every Weds night, lesson at 8:00p, and is located at Pier 17 at South Street Seaport.
If you've been to the other outdoor salsa at SSS, you head in that same direction, and then to the left of that is the inside mall with all the stores. Walk alongside the mall (on your left) and continue walking towards the water. At the end turn left and walk down the boardwalk that runs along the back of the mall. Spiegelworld is straight ahead under the circus-like tent...
