Hi,

I'm preparing for an upcoming comp and have a question about New Yorkers. I'm reading the ISTD Rumba book, 6th edition, pg 28. The example below is for the man's part in RSP but the question remains the same regardless of position or lead/follow. My question is about the study alignment but I include the chart for completeness:

"Commence in open PP. R to L hand hold

MAN, Foot Position, Amount of Turn, Count
1, RF fwd in RSP, 1/8 to L, 2
2, Transfer weight to LF, 3/8 to R over 2 & 3, 3
3, RF to side in open CPP, , 4 1

Study Alignment: Commence facing DW. 1 Down LOD 2 Against LOD 3 Facing DW against LOD"

QUESTION: On step 1-2. How can I go from facing down the LOD to against LOD? That's a full half turn! the amount of turn on step 2 is only a 3/8 turn...step 2 shouldn't the man's alignment be the same as 3, facing DW against LOD?

ty!

Um nevermind i figured it out. I misunderstood "Alignment" to always mean a forward step. After reading the definition i see that it means the direction in which the step is taken in relation to the room. So when I change weight back to my LF on step 2 my direction is opposite the previous step.

That makes sense. Blue ribbon here I come!
