I haven't had time to follow any major organized sports for years. Used to love it. Be sure to come back and let us know how your predictions turned out. 8)

In Detroit, the baseball team is unfortunate, the football team hasn't won an away game in 3 seasons, and the basketball team is excellent every few years with rough years in between.

But our beloved Red Wings, the Dynasty of our time, are made up of an entire roster of future hall of fame players.

So in Detroit, we watch Hockey!

GO WINGS!

I heard on the news the other day that hockey is a losing commercial proposition. Teams are losing money etc and there is talk of hockey not being shown on TV and teams being disbanded. I'm pretty sure that I saw this on ESPN or some other sports channel. You might need to find another sport pretty soon Bob!!

I grew up in Philly during the seventies and early eighties, and then, you could pick almost any team, and see a good game.

That was the time period when the Sixers won the championship (Julius Erving!), the Flyers won the Stanley cup, the Phillies won the world Series, and the Eagles actually made it to the Superbowl. It was a golden age for Philly sports, IMHO, that probably won't come again. The stars were aligned just right.

Come to think of it, I was very fortunate to live in one of the few cities that had almost all the bases covered, sports-wise. We even had thePenn relays, a major track and field event, every year. 8)

I think I pass out from the excitment, miss all of the action and wake up 6 weeks later wondering what all of the confetti on the ground was all about!

I hope not as I actually prefer watching hockey to football. I like the fast paced action! :D

If you like fast-paced action, try watching soccer (football in most of the world)

Nothing short of serious injoury or death on the field stops the action. 8) Now that's a sport to watch in person!

I was a soccer goalie before I was a hockey goalie. Soccer is fun, but there is nothing like the pure adreanalin of a puck comming straight at you at 90mph!

And a big save is a big save, in any sport (although I am a little envious of soccer's riot's. We don't get anything that cool here)

Bob,

I live here in San Antonio and I'm a huge a Spurs fan! I just went to the Spurs game on Friday night! I'm waiting for the NBA playoffs and I believe the Spurs will come out of the Western Conference. Also, I believe the Pistons will come out of the Eastern Conference. I looking for a Spurs-Pistons final! The TV networks won't like it..oh well!!!

Pygmalion,

Unfortunately, the soccer(football) doesn't have the pizzazz of the other four major sports. You can go 90 minutes and have a zero-zero score. Sports is about having an outcome...you win or you lose! That's my only problem with soccer!

By the way, I was huge Dr. J fan growing up and I remember the Philadelphia 76ers winning their NBA championship in 1983. (I'm dating myself!!) That was a great time for Philly sports. Hopefully, the Eagles can finally go to the Super Bowl!

Swing Kitten,

You're right it is about how you play the game. But, most sports have points scored and whoever has the most points wins. Sports is about competition. When you compete there is a winner and loser. That's what makes sports so dramatic because there is an outcome. Sportsmanship is important and sadly most professional sports have lacked sportsmanship..but it's still there in small doses!!

So tonight's the big night. Thoughts on this year's Stanley Cup run, anyone?

One really cool thing is that Tampa held back 200 tickets for game seven and sold them this morning, first-come, first-served, for only $8.00 each. 8)

Enjoy the game, guys and gals. :D

Bob

OMG, $8 tickets for a game like this...

and here I was going to trade my first born...

Go Calgary (eeeeGADS! who woulda thunk I would EVER say that)!!!!

Are you kidding? That was the absolute best hockey playoff season I have ever watched! The teams with the most heart won each round, in spite of higher salarys, talent, injuries, experiance.. whatever!

I tip my hat to the Lightning, well done boys!

Go Pistons!

pygmalion
06-12-2004, 06:22 PM
Cooool! Bob. A lot of folks I know are just plain disappointed if their own personal favorite doesn't win. I'm glad that you remember how to enjoy the game! 8) :D That's what it's all about, not? :D

Bob
06-12-2004, 06:39 PM
And besides, we still have the Pistons!

Lakers... Lakers... hmm, no I can't quite place the name. Are they from Seattle?

(Put Darco in! )
