*waves* Hi, everybody! =^__^= I've got a question about something I've seen here around DF a few times today. I've seen posts where people are talking about "bronze programs/patterns" or Silver levels, and the like, and I'm rather confused about it all.
As far as I know, I believe some members of this site know that I don't get to dance as much as I like (1-2 private lessons a month, sometimes none! :( ), so it may be that I'm just behind the times? But in my lessons, my teacher has never brought up anything like this. We go along as I take my lessons, either starting on a new dance every lesson, or going over old ones, making sure that I know my steps.
Anyway, if anybody out there has some information for me, I'd really appreciate it, because DF (and the DFites!) have really helped me when I've been unsure of something! I love you guys! :D

(PS- I know I stold the "DFites" from someone, so thanks for coming up with the term! =^_~=)

Sakura,
When we talk about bronze or silver, we are referring to the syllabus level steps. Bronze steps are the easiest to master, silver a bit more difficult and gold is supposed to be challenging. You are also view it in terms of progress, once you know all your bronze steps, you can move on to silver steps. Most social dancers however, only dance bronze steps. Ask your teacher what level steps you are learning.

Hello again! =^_^= That certainly clears quite a bit up for me! I'll make sure to ask next time I go, while I'm following your other bit of advice!
:) Now that I'm thinking about it, I think that I've got maybe a few lower silver-level steps that we've been working on! (At least, I hope they are!) I feel happy now!  Thanks a bunch for all of your help!

Sakura, some dance associations publish syllabus lists. They may be slightly different from one jurisdiction to another, but most of the steps will be the same everywhere.
For a look at Latin and Standard syllabus steps from my DanceSport Association, download the PDF forms at www.dancesportbc.com/downloads.php (http://www.dancesportbc.com/downloads.php). These docs list which steps are allowed in Bronze and Silver (and other) categories. Only International-style steps are included. Your region may be different, but if so I doubt there are more than one or two differences.

Just to expand on Adwiz's post, you can view the US ISTD's sylabi here (http://www.usistd.org/syllabi_step_lists_&_tempi/).

I'm so glad the ISTD finally started applying Bronze/Silver/Gold to their previously cryptic Associate/Licentiate/Fellow categories. Nobody could ever make sense of that language!
Thanks for posting that link. I like the inclusion of details like which Chasses can be used at which level.

It all sounds positively Oxbridgian, doesn't it? "I am working [wuhking] on my licentiate [liss-enss'-eeit] in International [Inter-nass'-eeonal] Dancing [Dahncing]!"
"Would you care to retire to the parlor for tea and crumpets, sir?"
"Oh what ho, I say, by Jove, thank you very much, Jeeves. Jolly good!"
S Kitty--DFites was from me. I thought it gave the forum a solid kind of Old Testament feel:
"And in those days, the DFites came down into the land of Cuba. And the Lord did smite the Baalish zombie grinders. And the DFites did dance before the Lord. And the Lord was mighty pleased, and He did bless them mightily."
I'll stop here or I shall be a-quoting Python again!
Cheers,
Genesius

Thanks for the links guys! :D I shall go there as soon as I finish looking at all the new DF posts my email box tells me I have to see!
Genesius, I loved that! Sooo funny!  But...  What's wrong with quoting Python?!?!? 8) You should know as well as I do that the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, or the Vicious Rabbit, or the sloths and breakfast cereals would have been perfect for this! ...Or maybe that was where you got your inspiration for it! =^__^= Alas, if only the world were full of more people who loved Dance and Monty Python, it would be a much better place...
