This thread is for you.

Please let us know your thoughts on/concerns with dancing. Your thoughts/questions will be very helpful as it will force me us  to really think about what we are doing and help us to become even better dancers than we are.

So, how about it? I will be checking IDs so anyone over the age of 19 will have to write lines

*waves* 15 yr-old "bloody" American here! ( :D Sorry, I can't help but poke fun at the American thing. I love my country, but we're so easy to make fun of! I mean, look at "Finding Nemo!" ... Wait, I'm off-topic again...)

In fact, I think we've "talked" before, in brief. But, as to your new thread here, my thoughts/concerns:

Well, price is a big one for me. I've just gone on about that in another thread asking people about how many lessons they took and things like that, so if you care to read my thoughts on that, that's where that bit is. :) I'm really concerned about it, because my teacher has told me that I've got quite a bit of talent, and that makes me really happy, but since can't afford the lessons, I can't get better, hone the raw talent, and do something that I love as much as breathing...

I would also love to compete, I think that it would be fun, for the experience, and that it could bring new lessons, but again, cost once again steps in to smack me in the face... My mum's actually told me that it would cost too much for me to compete (forgetting the increased number of lessons I'd need for a moment) so she doesn't want me to do it.

To get off of my worries for a moment, my thoughts. Oh, boy, here's where I get to spout off!

I love dancing more than anything. Except for maybe my ability to breathe, which lets me dance! But, in all seriousness, I grew up hearing stories from my Nana and Granddaddy, about how they used to dance, and how famous people would come to their school, so everyone would have to take lessons during school, and you could tell who would be in their pagents because they'd be walking down the hallways balancing books on their heads.
I remember feeling so happy when they'd tell me about it, so I knew that I would dance one day. And now, I've proven to my parents that I love dancing, and that I'm sticking with it. Everything about it: the music, the connection between dancers, knowing that my partner (in my case, my teacher) is looking out for me when we dance, so I know that I'm safe, and just the dance itself, even watching other couples dance brings me this immense joy that can't be fully explained through words, as they don't give it justice. But I'm sure that any dancer here knows exactly what I'm talking about.
I really wish that our schools would offer a "real" dance class. Our "Dance Team" consists of nothing but hip-hop-like, choreographed (sp?) dances that are a total turn-off to me. I would love to further my abilities while getting school credit for them! :D

*happy sigh* I suppose that it seems like I'm just going on and on, and maybe I have been, so I'm sorry if this has been much longer than what you wanted or if it's bored you, but when I start talking about dance, I just don't want to stop! I'll dance until my legs disintigrate away, and once that happens, the dancing will continue in my mind...

Sakura Kitty-

Are you sure you're actually 15? You're a very good writer.

Off topic, but what the heck--you're bright and articulate; I teach college; tell your parents I said they're lucky.

Cheers,

Genesius :D

Well, 15 and a half in 10 days, not counting today! =^__^= Eternally 3 1/2 at heart! (Go Bugs Bunny, Elegant Mess, and his other famous characters!)
  *blushes and bows* Thankyou very much for the complement! I get that from quite a few people who read my chosen works (i.e. The ones my parents steal from me to go show to others and brag about... 8) ) From a college professor, I take that as a great (prodigious!) complement! :notworth: :notworth: *hugs* I feel reaaaally happy now! *trots off to go dance to herself*

 Cheers! (Don't worry, I'd like to think it's apple cider...)

i'm seventeen so i think it's okay for me to post on this thread

to me, dancing isn't about the lessons you take. it isn't about how many years you've danced, your experience, how good you are. to me, dancing is about feeling the music... feeling good about yourself... relaxing yourself. i haven't taken very much dancing lessons (i have for the past three years though) but i've been dancing since i was a little girl. my dancing consists of me teaching myself. and yes, i do look at others and attempt to do what they do (it's a natural thing for me to do) but i try things on my own. normally, i tend to turn on music and just get lost in it, doing whatever i want to do. i taught myself how to belly-dance since i was never able to find affordable lessons for that. and according to many people who have watched me belly-dance, they have said i have a lot of talent. that's why i think that dancing really isn't about the lessons and it certainly isn't about how much money you spend on it. dancing is something you can do anywhere at anytime with any kind of music.

i spend hours upon hours dancing and stretching by myself or with a couple other friends... i tend to not like a teacher sometimes because they tell me to do things that i may not want to do.

anyways, that's my input :P

 You taught yourself to belly dance?! That's so cool! :D I think belly dancing would be a lot of fun (as well as quite a bit of exercise!)! Keep up with your own dancing -- because it sounds like your philosophies on dance are carrying you to your own fine places -- and remember our number one rule: just have fun!

There's no problem with my having fun with dance! :D  I love it! *laughs* The only problem with it is that I don't get to do enough of it! Ah, well, that'll change someday... 8)

*nods* I feel for you. With mine and my parents' busy scheules, I can hardly get in, but my biggest "root of all evils" has to be the monies... Rawr! I wish it weren't so expensive! As it's said of Anime, but can be applied to Dance: "Anime/Dance: Crack cocaine is cheaper..." And the worst part is: it's very nearly true!

My dance addiction is physical and mental -- which means it's not going anywhere anytime soon! :D (Good for me, bad for my pocketbook; which, I might add, already has the moths flying out of it... *sweatdrop* =^__^=;;) It is pricey!  Not fair!

Of course being grossly immature counts! It's half the fun of being young! :D :D 8) And it all really depends on your way of thinking! If you're young at heart, and you know it, then you are! And after you decide on that, nobody else's opinion on the matter counts, because you've settled it with you!

 :kitty: *hiss, splutter, splutter* but Teach! How am I being difficult?!? All I said was, I won't ask to see his Youth Card

It is quite funny, I think, that for a change those over 19 are being asked to prove that they are UNDER 19 years of age. Normally, it is the youth that always have to produce ID/prove they are OVER a certain age

True. At least in the US, when you're over thirty, getting asked for ID is a sign that you're young-looking, and perceived to be a very good thing. LOL.

Did I mention that I got carded (asked for ID to prove I was over 21) on my most recent birthday in March? I was very happy.

I'm still going to start that thread.

*grins* No need to plan ahead here! With all of the projects we've had this year in my Honors classes: one after the other/having them at the same time, plus activities; I've already HAD one!!!!!

(*frowns* However, if that means I've had my midlife crisis now, that means that I'll only live to be a few days short of being 31!  Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more time to dance! ...Acutally, I bet them angels is pretty light on they's feet!  )

One reason I love my salsa club is that I get carded there every night! By now they all know me, so I'm pretty sure it's a courtesy. Still.... :D

*pouts* I don't have to worry about that yet 'cause I'm not old enough to get into any clubs! ...Someday I will be though, and then everybody will have to watch out (in a good way)!! :D
