How do you handle it when you live in one state and your pro/am teacher lives in another?
How are the entries listed? Is there a specific "rule"?

Don't they normally use the studio location when listing location?
Not being snarky - but why would it matter?

Usually, the book lists the teacher's location. This was kind of funny at USDC when they kept saying Canada for Andre Paramanov when the book listed Florida (I think).

oh, and when it can make a difference is when you are from one region and your teacher is from another -- you get points and will end up dancing in the teacher's region in the team match at Ohio.

My instructor is from a different state, and region, but comes to my state once a week to teach. However, I dance "from" his state. I think this is partially due to the fact that there is probably only room for one state per person/address in the computer program. Whatever address is mailed in with the entries will be the address that is used.
I would find that really hard, our coaches are in our area, you must be very dedicated to do so :-)

For me, dancing with someone out of my area is a matter of "time management". At first just mentally thinking about it was a challenge--now it is just a part of my life.
If there is aperson you want to have lessons with, or dance with, it is always worth a try!

my instructor has several ladies from out of town and they always list "from" Atlanta...i think it's less confusing that way

When we lived in different states, we were listed under my teacher's state.

Makes sense for Pro/Am

I dance for Atlantic Ballroom in MD although I live 1.5hrs away in VA. I've gotten used to it. In the dance world I'm from MD.

I (from one state) teach a couple (from a second state) with another teacher (from a third state). We've never been from the same place twice ;-)
When there are more than the four of us to consider, I may end up being from several places at the same event. It confuses my competition friends, and keeps other ninjas from tracking me down...

This week at Hawai'i Star Ball I danced "from Honolulu" :)
Sometimes it's from the city where the studio is, which is the same city where my teacher lives. Sometimes it's from where I live. It really depends on how the data entry is handled for the comp, and what information is stuck in the computer from previous years.

Laura, what is the criteria that made it "from honolulu" this time?

Teacher is from Honolulu and his biggest sponsor is a Honolulu-based firm.
