Hi everyone, im new here :D
From what i've read you all know what your talking about, so i was hoping you could help me? I don't do any types on dance, don't take any classes, so i just need help with umm, what i would just call normal dancing (dont know what u would say it was). The only part of my body that doesnt seem to react to music is my legs, the most important parts. They want to move, but its like they cant, or dont know how, lol, as strange as that might sound. my hips seem to move fine (i know it comes from the knees, but thats about all my legs will do) and my arms and everything, but not my legs! its so frustrating, i've tried to relax and not think too much about it, but still no success. Can anyone help me fix this problem? id be really grateful to whoever can try to help me, thank you! (there might be a really simple reason for this, but i cant see it)

Hi Abriel. welcome. :D

Check out the club dancing thread at the top of general dance, for some background recomendations. In the meantime, I hope some other DF experts will give you their two cents' worth.

welcome to the forums. 8)

Welcome to df Abriel! Cool looking avatar! I would say just start walking to the music, and work your way up from there. As they say...if you can walk to it you can dance to it. :)

Welcome to the forums Abriel :)

Like Sagitta suggested try walking to the music. Or you could try turning it up really loud, close your eyes and just sway along with the beat, pretty soon you will find yourself wanting to use your arms and legs and LOTS of space around you.
Thats the beauty of freestyle dance...there are no "proper" moves and steps, you just dance!

Hey Abriel! Great to have you here on DF! I agree with Sagitta here, walking to the music will definitely help start you off on the right foot! (No pun of any kind intended... :x ) If you've got a CD player or something that you can take on a walk with you or something, go with that, and find your own walking beat for whatever songs you choose to listen to. From that, you can start "walking" (I prefer "strutting!" :D  ) with the beat, in your own style, and after that, put the CD on in your house and just start making up your own random steps! They don't have to be anything ornate: a step to the front, one back, maybe a few to the sides; throw your arms in, and you've got your own little dance! *shrugs* I don't know how much sense that might have made, but hey, it works for m! (Heh, only when no one can see me though!)
The important thing here is to just go at your own pace and have fun with it! That's what Dance is all about after all!

:x Doh! Correction, more than 400 more posts than I do! :D I'm not implying anything! I'm: 1. Stating that I shouldn't have fallen off from DF for those couple of months, no matter how much homework I had, and 2. That I just find it rather interesting that you have so many more posts than I do, even though you joined more than a month after me, and it's only been a month since you've joined! (Of course, with reason number two, there may be some deep-lying annoyance that you get to get on to DF so much as to accomplish that! :P  )

Gotta hand it to you Genesius, you're on a roll!!!

On a very off-topic note, I'm happy 'cause I just got back from the Hard Rock Cafe, Indianapolis, and I have four new pins, a spiffy tote bag, and one of their "All-Access" cards! Phweeee!!!!!!!!!!! :D Lots of stuff! Add that to my two tank tops, and I'm happy! But, I don't think anybody reaaally cared about that.

I've never been to Hard Rock Cafe, although there's one very close to my house. How is it? I've heard the burgers are mediocre and overpriced, but it's fun to look at the memorabilia. The one in Orlando has suits from the original Power Rangers series.

The one in Orlando has suits from the original Power Rangers series.

  Really?!?!?!? Cool! (I used to be a die hard Original series Power Rangers fan... Compared to all of the other series they came out with, I still am {a fan of the original}!)

I would definitely say go! If you don't like it, you can at least say that you've gone to one, and had the experience. :D I'm a band geek, so of course I'd love it; but my biggest suggestion is to go with a large group of your friends; that way, not only is it more fun, but you can get a back room, get up and dance, and sing your hearts out! (They play music with the respective videos on screens... Heh, heh, our band got a kick out of the whole dancing + semi-karaoke... I wish we had video of that...! :D 8) ) I like the food ('specially the french fries!), and I don't think the burgers are quite as bad as "mediocre," but they're not gourmet, if you know what I mean -- but it's a rock restaurant -- nobody's shooting for that. All in all, even it you don't like it, in the end, you can come away with some great memorabillia! So go, have fun, dance and sing, and get the t-shirt.

Sakura Kitty :kitty:

(PS- Yah, it is a bit overpriced, but with a restaurant like that, what would you expect? )

Hard Rock Cafe is good if you're in, like, Japan, and you don't know what any of the food is at the regular restaurants. Yeah, the burgers are all overpriced but they're overpriced at TGI Friday's too. You go for the atmosphere!

Hey Abby-

I forgot you actually had a question!

Everything people have said about walking to the music is right on, I think. You've seen "Saturday Night Fever"? Check out Travolta's strut!! I say get yourself a set of headphones and some Bee Gees, and walk around the streets of downtown Cardiff. Stayin aliiiiiiiiii-iiiiiiiiii-ah-ah-iiiiiiii-iiiiiiiiive!

I have yet to see "Saturday Night Live," (  Not fair, and shocking, I know!) but I have seen the strut, and I love it!

Sakura Kitty :kitty:

(Actually, on our band trip to Gatlinburg, TN, two weeks ago, the last thing we did was this "laser tag/arcade lock-in" and they played "Stayin' Alive," and one of my drummer friends and I were strutting around this pool table, while I was playing that with another friend... Great fun! :D  )

Aww! Bebe! :( I saw "The Ladykillers" with my friend Achika, and my mum and dad in tow. We two sat separate, but while the movie was going on, it was an agreed upon fact that, "Cat-chan, you're gonna be sooooo screwed {because of my parents} when this is over!" with agreement from me. (It was because of the excess language. Apparently, my parents almost left twice, and I got a tiny, not-quite-angry-enough-at-me-because-they-knew-I-didn't-know-about-it, semi-lecture thing...) The only part I could truthfully say that I liked about it (besides the stereotypical old, Asian man, who was awesome!! :D ) was Tom's character -- who my friend Achika pointed out as looking like Colonel Sanders after I said he seemed to be an image of Satan, which led to the only obvious conclusion that Colonel Sanders was Satan, and that's why everything tastes like chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D   :D
(Note that that's why you don't go to the movies with myself and my friends unless you're in the mood for semi-spoofing, humourous commentary, dissection, and interesting, round-about, semi-workable theories throughout! )

...and being easily amused is probably one of the truest ways to appreciate this adventure called life so, to quote our DF mates from down under, "good on you!" (don't worry, it's soda!)

:D Hey, it's not that bad of a thought, is it?! It'll be fun! And yes, you will join us... To quote someone's signature (and I know his name! I just can't recall it at this point in time...  ) "We Are The Swing (or put in your own Dance) Dancers. Life As You Know It Is Over. Your Technological And Biological Distinctiveness Will Be Added To Our Own. Resistance Is Futile..." :D :D It'll happen soon. You'll slowly become addicted to the site -- even if you fall off of it for a few months... I did, and look at me now!
I should be doing homework too, if it makes you feel any better! Finishing an Honors Chemistry Lab and writing down notes and studying for my French quiz tomorrow... Ahh, my school life is good...

*grins and giggles slightly* I'm the definition of easily amused! As it's been put to me now by my surrogate family, "Cat-chan, AIR molecules make you happy!!!!!" :P :D It's great being me! Gotta love our mates, ne??
