According to dancesportinfo there was only one couple in open am last year.

Hmmm.....not sure if this year will be more. NJ Classic is one week later, maybe most of dancers in Northeast will go NJ classic instead.

Last year we danced Gold AM standard and smooth. Last year, two couples in smooth, 3 in standard. Not going this year, will do Commonwealth instead.

Oh, I thought you had danced collegiate Standard before. A bit rusty, eh?
Eeeh, don't let the Facebook pictures fool you. True, I competed in Gold Smooth and Standard in the collegiate circuit, but never with a steady partner, and the technique was never there. I started from scratch-ish this summer, so even though I'm not jumping into everything right away, I feel a lot more confident about what I am attempting this go-round. :)
On another note, I'm beyond ecstatic to be renting one of Katarzyna's dresses for this comp. ::beams::

Hmm, even if I was dancing saturday, I wouldn't be able to shoot you! :(
If I'm not mistaken, you'd be on the floor at the same time making faces at me (and hopefully not barrelling through me in Quickstep)!

At least if I am making faces, I won't have a pained emotionless expression on my face.
And I think you mean tripping over my own feet in quickstep.
Hey, we had a decent Quickstep on Friday! 8)

I am very confused how some of the couples registered for AM/AM pre-champ age category C; they compete in Bronze and Pre-Champ. I thought the pre-champ would require open routine or at least Gold to look competitive. We mostly compete in USA Dance events and in those couples only sign up for consecutive levels: Bronze and Silver, or Silver and Gold, so you normally see couples dancing Pre-champ and Gold, or Pre-champ and Championship. well are going to try three dances in pre-champ, and see how it goes

are dancing at the International - maybe this is their warm-up. Matthew Cutler & Charlotte Egstrand danced at the Atlanta Open just before Blackpool when they first started -- what a treat for whomever will be there this weekend! Are Paul & Oksana dancing for England?

Dancesportinfo.net has Paul Killick partnered with Olga Rodionova...guess that never really happened. They were listed as dancing for England, so maybe Paul and Oksana will as well?
Was thinking of going up to CT this weekend, but Friday...think they are dancing on Saturday night...darn!
Argh, wasn't planning on sticking around Saturday night . . . don't know if I can change my plans to accomodate the evening's events, though. :( I guess we'll see.

I did, and I'll be happy to post if no one else does by the time I get to it. I'm in a REALLY foul mood right now and I feel nauseated and exhausted, to boot. Hopefully I'll be in a better state tomorrow morning . . .

cool. Was it your first comp wiht this partner?
Yes, Paul and his partner danced on Saturday, and they won handily. I hardly looked at the other couples on the floor. The partnership is still new, though: they were not as synchronised as Eugene & Maria or Ricardo & Yulia, but that will come with time. Oksana is a very elegant lady, and suits Paul very well. However, I feel that he needs to showcase her as his lady more. I found myself watching him more than I watched her, which is rare, since I typically find myself studying the lady in the partnership more often than not.
Paul did not tan, which I found a little surprising. Yes, it was a small comp, and a warm-up for them, but I'm guessing that getting a Mystic could not have been too much trouble. It was particularly noticable since the back of Paul's shirt was mesh (and let me tell you, he's in good shape!).
I can't say from previous experience, but from what I heard people around me saying, their Paso was almost identical to Paul's former routine. Regardless, it was pretty nifty. Again, though, I found myself watching Paul more than Oksana.
That's all I have for now. I'll add more if I remember anything else.

Thanks for posting, Gary! Oksana really is stunning and Paul is quite the showman. Agree with BM that I found myself watching him and I typically watch the lady in latin as well. Maybe with time this will balance out...or maybe not. We shall see, but looking forward to seeing more.
