Hiya All!

We've just launched a new sister site, the Travel Forums (http://www.thetravelforums.com/) :!:

We're hoping that you can all help us out. If you've traveled and have stories, tips, or even horror stories, those would all be great.

Even more important though, is something that everyone can do... tell us about where you live! Seriously, when people travel there's nothing better than having information about what the locals do, where they go, what they see, where they eat, etc.

Thanks, in advance, for all of your contributions! :D

Nice job guys.

"Africa, Australasia, Asia, Europe, North America, South America"

One question though  where is one supposed to talk about the Caribbean?

Well, we were listing by continents... do you think a seperate forum for "Islands" would be appropriate?

 No, I think it best to keep the "islands" in their geographical/political areas. For instance, the Caribbean is often linked with North America. If I call a travel agent, the staff who look after North America often look after the Caribbean also. Incidentally, when dialing from outside the region, the dialling code for the Caribbean is the same for the US (001 etc).

It will also make it easier if someone wants to talk about islands around Europe (Canary, Gibralter, Malta, Channel Isles, Sardinia etc) it would be easier to think of them being in Europe than as a separate group/forum.

That had been my original thinking... but then some trouble maker started asking questions, and...

I think the cartographers of the past didn't know what to do with islands, so they just grouped them wherever made sense that day. *shrug*

Ehem! As a teacher/lecturer, I know that you know that I know that it is your duty to shape and encourage inquisitive minds

Laura, they're very interesting stories; very enjoyable. I think i'll have to print them out and read them on the balcony in the sun. Nice for some relaxing Sunday afternoon escapism. :D

Heh, yeah, they're kind of long. But I realized when I was typing them in that there are so many things I didn't write about, like the nuns climbing a pyramid in Bagan, or what it was like to climb the central tower of Angkor Wat and seeing the dense jungle spread out around me, or the two little boys swimming naked in the lilly pond with the incredible towers of Angkor reflecting in it, or that none of the cats I saw in Thailand were actually what we'd call Siamese, or that the most common name for cats in Burma is translated as "Golden Hair," or the 18-hole golf course that lies between the left and right runways at Bangkok International, or the Burmese MiGs on the ground in Yangon, or...or...or it just goes on and on and the more I think about it the more I remember.
