Hi-
I'm new to this board and look forward to participating. Have found much useful information here.
Nevertheless, I wonder if there're other FORUM boards that are more localized to the San Diego area. I'm currently most interested in swing (WCS & Jitterbug) and Nightclub Two-Step.
Know of any others?
Thanks in advance!

Weicome to the DF.
Many posters here start threads specifically for posters in their areas. It's great b/c the locals get info relevant to them, and the rest of us often benefit from the insights. Perhaps, one of the members from that area will start a san Diego Dancers thread for you.

Thank you. The forum will be the least of the addiction. There's always YouTube vids of dancing and dance lessons, my taking two lessons a week, going out 4-6 nights a week. I guess I'm an 'addictive' type personality.
Though I've always enjoyed dancing, I hadn't taken any lessons since before I was married. I'm no longer married and sorry I did not start formal training sooner, but this is seriously interfering with my previous workstyle and lifestyle. But I get such a 'high' when I go dancing.
I've even changed my match.com profile to mention that my future SO must be 'passionate' about partner dancing-otherwise, it's a 'deal-breaker' for me.
Pathetic, huh?

No, I'm in North County and have never been to Starlight (though I've heard very good things about it), but I have made the 'trek' to
'Patti's' on Sunday nights-38 miles one-way, but can do it in about 30 minutes due to light (usually 'very' light) traffic.
'Graduated' Basic WCS last night out of San Marcos.
Just switched training to Dance North County.
Going to Irvine end of month for the 'Halloween Swingthing'. Can't wait!

Thanks, I'm already aware of one other board dedicated to San Diego, but will try to pm him.

Just wondered since I've had the pleasure of dancing at the Starlight on two previous visits to San Diego, the first Saturdays when they do WCS. Also the SDSC Sunday Dance.

I'm sure that I will check it out sometime, but the distance and traffic during the week (most likely) makes it impracticable for me to take lessons there, and Saturdays can be bad for traffic as well.

Not on Match myself, but dancing is on my "must have / be" list.
Funny thing is I've danced with some very attractive women who weren't really dancers and my internal reaction was, "Ewwwwww! She's a hottie but she CAN'T dance!" Maybe THAT'S pathetic.

well so two-sided reaction? "very attractive" turn you on but "CAN'T DANCE" shut you immediately off? you are not alone, some of my male dance friends complain about the same thing to me, they say they met a beautiful girl like model, blah blah blah, however, once she pick up her dance frame, they want to run...when she put down her dance frame, she becomes "attractive again"...lol...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've been extremely attracted to some women who were not true beauties but were very sexy in many other ways; and so-called 'beauties' who bored me or who did not know how to move, either on the dance floor, or in or out of the bedroom. hehe ;)
Chemistry or 'attractiion' can be really funny, sometimes.

generally speaking, once the magic is gone, it's gone.
a gal can stay (relatively less) hot (and a lot less desirable) and stay away from dancing.
or she can recover her hotness by continuing to learn to dance.
but if she tries to get by by winging it, all that's left of her would be lameness - and there is no recovering from that.

Rumblefish, try visiting ocdance.com . Nancy Lester posts her weekly list of what's happening in and around Orange County -- click on the "This week.." tab at the bottom of the page. They've reorganized the site a bit, but they should still have a list of venues and studios, etc.
I don't recall any North County listings, but there's OC Tavern in south San Clemente that has dancing -- sorry, never been. There was a "Tavern Dancers" club that would meet somewhere in Aliso algo (I'm more of a central/north OC guy and can't keep track of all the new communities down there). They'd do West Coast and country mainly, but I've lost track of them.
Just out of curiosity, what and where is "Patti's"?
PS
For Lindy in Orange County, it's mainly Shesha Marvin, the new owner of Atomic Ballroom (http://www.atomicballroom.com/). Lindy dances are on Tuesday and Friday, and West Coast on Thursday.
I was going to mention http://swinginfo.com/, which was Shesha's old website (that's how I first found him six years ago). Even though it was OC-centric, it also used to mention venues in San Diego County so that might be of some use. Though it's out-of-date now -- it has a link to Shesha's OC Swing Club site, which is still current: http://www.ocswing.com/.
Hint: even though swinginfo.com mentions Wednesday Lindy at Tia Juana's, that ended about a year ago. Now Wed. night Lindy is at the Women's Club in downtown Orange (farther to go than to Irvine).

DWise1-
Thanks for the info, but OC may be too far away. Your post should help others in that area.
The only venue in OC I'll be going to will be the 'Hallloween Swingthing' in Irvine, will be staying at the hotel there for the weekend.

Pattie Well's' is in San Diego. I'd post a link but it's apparently not permitted for newbies like myself. Her 'dancetime' studio is on Morena Blvd, been around for years...

Is this a studio that holds open dances? If so, would you recommend it to a visitor?
I'm sure I'll visit again.

Sure, I can recommend the open dance party for Jitterbug on Sunday nights. Mostly jitt, ECS, some WCS, NC2. Can be fun.
But now I'm enamored with Synergy and recommend you go there for free lesson and dance on Friday nights. Open dancing, all kinds. Not bad for five bucks.
All interesting things listed here. If you cannot find any local listings start one of your own and those coming to the forum will have a look at the thread. We have an Aussie Thread that anyone can view it is not just for Aussies, but it gives us a chance to discuss local issues.
