Hi.. I'm new to OC (and new to dance forums as well!) and was wondering if anyone knows of any salsa/merengue clubs in the area. I've done some google searches and have found a few places, but want dancer's opinions! Of course, I'd rather a club with a nice big dance floor, dj or live music...doesn't matter to me...but nothing irks me more than an over-crowded dance-floor. I want to be able to do turns and dips instead of crossbody leads and cross-over breaks all night long! :) Ah, but I guess it's truly no matter. I really just want to dance!! Just prefer not to be so limited, I suppose.

JC Fandangos on Friday nights is a blast. I've been there two or three times. A lot of my friends in the area dance there.

Thanks, Youngsta. I've heard about it as well. Heard the floor is big, live bands, cover charge reasonable. So thanks again! I'll have to check it out soon! :)
Ciao for now...and happy dancing!

Here's a list of clubs in the greater LA area (http://www.salsaweb.com/la/la_clubs/index.htm), inlcuding JC Fandangos.

Hope that helps... :D

Tia Juana's in Irvine (right off the 5 at Sand Canyon) on Thursday night. Alma Frey runs that show. http://salsera.com/

There's also a ballroom in Orange ... on Tustin Ave north of Chapman, I think. You'll need to Google for that.

There's a bar/club just south of the airport. I think it's called Tapas. We tried it a few years ago when we were still trying Salsa. They had room for a band, but the floor was only moderate size and it was packed. They still advertise on radio on Super-Estrella (107.1 FM), as do several other clubs (hope your Spanish is up to it).

BTW, don't consider these recommendations, since we haven't done Salsa for a few years. Salsa was the very first dance we started to learn, but she wanted to learn Jitterbug, so I'm very much into Lindy right now. I plan to migrate back to Salsa a year or three from now.
