Reading the thread about martial arts and dance made me think (sorry).

The martial arts have undergone a great many changes this last century. People have been able to study in minute detail all the way the body works and a wide range of fighting techniques. Combining the two (and other information) new fighting arts have been developed that are more effective (however it is defined) than the more traditional styles.

So what if the same intensity is applied to the dance world WRT to further developments. We have access to many different styles of dance through the media of various visual aids. There are an abundance of physical training regimes all designed to perfect the performance of the human body. There are all manner of performance enhancing drugs available.

Makes me think, what next?

Appreciate input in what if out there that can be used in the dance world.

Excellent thought D-spot.

I'd like it if someone could invent a skin tight suit and, using nanotechnology, embed a miniature computer with a 20GB HDD containing information on different dance styles, moves etc. Then, via wireless link to a contact lens or glasses, where a menu could be viewed, the information on what dance you will be performing can be selected by retinal scan (or something akin to that) which then transfers the information back to the suit, which then 'guides' the person wearing the suit to perform that action.

Hhhmm, vitual suit. You could pick the person of your dreams to dnce with and it would feel like her (or him).

Watching some tapes of old performances, the style is noticeably different to the modern day style. The cha-cha was very bouncy, the moves weren't anywhere near as dynamic, the clothes (OMG) what can be said about them (anyone miss them?), the timing was much softer.
If you've seen the Bruce Lee cha-cha video, chck out the action there.

Modern day the performances are much more athletic, flatter and more streamlined (if they are the right words for it), the clothes have improved (bing sartorially challenged I'm not the greatest authority on that however) and the timing is so much sharper.

It seems as if the modern competitor is getting more athletic and more dramatic (another thread). Other 'performing arts' have gone this way and then returned to a more technical bias. How much further is partner dancing going to evolve in the athleticism direction? What will be the factors that change the nature of performances? Will Beefy ever marry Susie? (Oops, that one slipped out).

Still have to watch the other dances and see how they have evolved. The girlfriends father has a nice collection and I am taking advantage of her over it.
