In the wine shop today, while I was standing in line, a lady came in and had a completely audible (and very annoying btw) conversation with her girlfriend. I'm from Philly (a big city) so I knew how to completely ignore her. But folks around started responding to her conversation, laughing and such. After a few minutes, she told the person on the other end of the line that she would have to go into the details later, because "you know how people try to listen to your conversations." what?!? Nobody there asked to be bombarded with her long, boring, graphic and pointless conversation. eeek! The arrogance of that chick!
Has anybody else had irritating interactions with people and their cell/mobile phones?

Yes, my friend drives me nuts. She's on the phone with me and talking on the cell phone with her boyfriend. Then wants to discuss her cell phone conversation with me?!.  :x  :?

Really.
That's when I calmly take her phone out of her hand and proceed to demolish it with a baseball bat. Then I smile at her and say, "Now you don't have to worry about anyone listening in."

I think cell phones can be and are abused way too much, I have many friends who can't seem to stop talking to each other on them...they seriously call each other about 90 times a day!
I use mine primarily for long distance and emergencies. Most of the time its off, that's what voice mail is for! :D
Whenever I see people on cell phones with their hands free speaker in their ear...for instance in the grocery store...I can't help but want to throw something at them! I believe George Carlin has a very funny comedy bit about this. :D
One thing that happened to me one time though...I was walking towards a friends house I saw a very attractive lady come my way. She was looking right at me and said "hey there, how are you!"
I immediately responded with "hello! I'm doing fine, and yourself!"...and then quickly noticed a frown on her face as I saw she was holding a cell phone and was clearly not talking to me! She gave me a quite snippy snear and then walked away...and I was almost tempted to ask her out just to be a smart ass! ;)
Believe me...I am so looking forward to being out of town for a while next week...no computer, cell phone will be OFF and I can let my mind be free for a while.
Ahh...:)

If I'm having a conversation with my significant other, it drives me up the wall when her cell phone rings and she picks it up right in the middle of our discussion. I mentioned this to her, but she still proceeds to do this.
GR, can I borrow your baseball bat?

For her, or the phone?
Just kidding. My SO does the same thing. And my patient explanations of my I'm insulted just don't sink in. Essentially, by picking up the phone, he's saying to me that, whoever is on the other end of the line, is more important than our conversation. Pretty annoying.

Definitely the cell phone. The SO is far too intelligent, lovely, and appreciated. :)
And I say it can be applied to the reguler phone as well. The telephone is one of the rudest inventions of man kind. Yes, I know, it can be practical and certainly an appropriate communication tool. I use it with my work all the time, and could't have built my business as rapidlly without it. However, when phones interrupt important conversations, or perhaps better put, when we interupt the conversation to pick up a phone, it's rude. So, maybe it isn't the phone being rude. Besides, if it is really important, they will call back or leave a message and we can call them.
Ok...stepping off my soap box, and going out to dance! Yeehah!

Oh LORD would you guys hate the cellphone abuse in this country! People mail each other thousands of times a day, mostly while on the train, in the car, even riding on their bicycles. (Computer? Who needs a computer when one has their little toy cellphone...)Needless to say, accidents happen! The cellphones here are now equipped with every gadget possibly imaginable- from alarms to video cameras. It is truly disgusting to see the lack of communication going on and the needless fumbling around to get needless chatter sent. The ridiculous music(ringing tune) that ensues before the even more ridiculous conversation starts is just as irritating...

I felt very old, not long ago, while sitting on a train going home and reading a book. It seemed everyone else around me was sending text messages to friends or playing games.
Perhaps I should buy a PDA and read ebooks on it.
