It is a funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best you very often get it.

Errr, this one may be a little obscene, but it happens to be my favorite joke.
What's more nervous than a nun in a cucumber patch?
A horse with a Greek jockey!

Umm. Back on topic.
True. If you refuse to accept less than the best, you are much more likely to get the best. Of course, you're much more likely to be disappointed.

There is something to be said for having high goals and standards... yet I think it is important to be happy and satisfied with your life. --this doesn't count for unhealthy environments I'm not saying those should be tolerated--
but if life is going reasonably well and you're not happy... then no worldly thing will make things better for you.

You can date anyone you want to if your standards are low enough. (overheard from one of my professors)
People who succeed do tend to want to hang around other people who succeed. Those who expect the best or want the best generally won't accept anything less than the best.
Yeah, a lot of those aphorisms are true.

Don't laugh--I may be there before the end of this month....
As for only the best and getting it. Since it comes with a link to "Pangloss's wisdom," I find it best to maintain a healthy sense of scepticism a la Voltaire. After all, in this best of all possible worlds we also have ticks and cockroaches!

Oh, I wasn't talking about extravagancy when I referred to "only the best". The simplest can also be the best!
