Not mine! Yet
A colleague is getting maried and wants to do salsa for her wedding dance. Any song suggestions? Orchestra Palabra's song, Lady, automatically comes to mind, as well as the english salsa song from "Dance with Me", You are my Home.

Try Elvis Crespo ---i think..."Eres tu.." or Tony Vega ......or Gilberto Santa Rosa "La agarro bajando" (but the lyrics are not very appropriate".....so try....:)

yo! two come to mind cause i love em so much:
Puerto Rican Power (tito rojas sings; first PRP release on MP label and with tito rojas) - Noche de boda
Bobby Valentin - La Boda de Ella
These tracks are about getting married. I know there are loads of others, but these are the ones that come to mind that speak of getting married.

Thanks Pelao.
 SalseroR. That is the other catch, the lyrics. You might be dancing to a beautiful song not realising that the lyrics are about having a broken heart/lost love :? (and there is sure to be at least one guest who understands spanish on that particular occassion  )
Incidentally, I wonder how long it is going to be before a record company hits on the idea of having a specially salsa compilation "Wedding Dance Songs" :D

since you brought up the thing about lyrics.
the puerto rican power one is about after the wedding, hence the name "Noche de boda" (wedding night). It talks about how the guy is so lucky and thankful that his new wife saved her virginity for him (and wedding) so their first night together making love as husband and wife is even more special. He just sings about the details, like how he notices she starts to get nervous, or how right after the wedding, the mother was crying of the happiness. This is a very beautiful song that talks about the special/personal relationship between a newly wedded couple. I would love this at my wedding as the dance of the married couple. This one is very romantic.
the bobby valentin one is kinda a romantic-comedy. It talks about how her wedding has to be the best (the way she demands). Its very light-hearted and a great addition to a wedding. I can't remember the rest of the lyrics, but if I listen to it when I get home, I'll give you a better summary of it.
All in all, both can be danced by anyone. You don't have to be married or anything like that to dance to them. They're great songs.

Oh, I am one of those who dance to EVERYTHING pelao  But, in terms of the compilation, it is more to add to the selection that exists eg. "waltz for weddings" "music selection for weddings" etc  especially as it seems that more and more people are selecting salsa for their wedding song. :bouncy:

But--uh, what if she didn't? Or he didn't? They didn't? Would that song still work?

Yea sure. The main thing these songs are pointing out, is that, despite the circumstances surrounding weddings - they are still a beautiful thing. Heh, im pretty sure if i were to get married, we both wouldn't be virgins  . But hey, everyone at my wedding would probably know that. Still, I'd make the our song.

 As Karen Carpenter once sang GR, and I will "sing" these words for you
Make believe it's your first time, leave your sadness behind, make believe its your first time, and I'll make believe it's mine
PS. Did you ever allow your parents to read you "fairytales"? Or did you rewrite/reword it as they went along?

Ah, Pacion, Karen Carpenter--you do know how to make a boy's heart skip a beat, don't you?
Or like Madonna says,
Like a Virgin!
Touched for the very first time,
Like a Vir-ir-ir-ir-gin,
I can feel your heart beat (pump pump)
Next to mine....
Pelao--I just figured that maybe my bride could wear off-white. I think many of us tend to check under the hood these days. Or have our own hoods checked under.
Fairytales I read on my own as soon as I knew how. And I love The Princess Bride. Combination of irony and romance is very much my style!

NO.... Not la boda de ella... That song is actually about a guy not being invited to the wedding of his ex lover if you will, and that it should have been him marrying her. That her husband won't ever get used to her, that her husband always gives him a dirty look on the street. That her husband will regret marrying her, and that after 3 years he will know she is a devil and he will leave her, that she can never hide the fact that she is still his even if married. God, he even says that the white dress doesn't suit her well, that it needs to be a little off white. That if the priest knows her, he won't bless the wedding. He even goes on to tell her that even if she is married, to lets go on to Mambo (a sexual act reference)
I would recomend, Idilio, listen to the lyrics. OMG, that is just about an Idilio = an adventure of love with poetical tendencies.
Experto en Ti by none other than Cheo Feliciano... :kissme: It is about how well he knows her. How he knows everything that makes him an expert about her, her thoughts, every steps she takes, every curve in her body. If they look for a bolero, the need look no farther than cheo either...
Yo Te Pido Amor by Paquito Guzman... The Night turns into day besides her. He wants her love until his blood boils through the veins. My Love My Love, I need your love. I need to have in ME. The corous, My Love My Love, I ask for your love, I need your warmth. ... It goes on to say that he will always love her, and that her love will warm his body until it boils. He loves her more than his life, and even more he can love her. Paquito really has some wonderul love songs. He was song by song right there with any one singer of Salsa Romantica, be it frankie ruiz, eddie santiago, you name them, he is there right besides them.
How about a cha cha??? Mi Nena by Los flamboyan...
It is about how beautiful is his woman, and how he would love to marry her, be happy with her, and have a beautiful life with her. His love, that she loves him, he loves her. It is an absolutely beautiful cha cha that I gave to my lady love in a CD one day. I didn't tell her it there was a song for her, she called me in tears. :D :D
Mi Reina by Manole.. There is another rendition of it, I forget who sings it.
A bit up beat, but nice beat though. The more days that go by the more I love her, the more I want to be next to her. I can’t explain it. I’m losing control I want to have next to me in the mornings and nights, I want her always next to me to know she is my soul mate. It is something I can’t explain, I can’t loose it. She is feels like a queen, and she is driving me crazy. I go nuts and each day I love her even more… I live thinking of you…
Caricias Prohibidas by Vitti Ruiz
I shake every time that I look into your eyes, every time your body comes close to mine I shake because I know it will end in lovemaking. At night you make me loose all composure… It is a lovemaking song that is absolutely beautiful… One of my favorite Salsa Romanticas. Absolutely gorgeous song!
Ok Ok, I need to stop, I'm getting out of hand...

Id love to be able to understand what the words mean in salsa songs :D
Maybe thats why i love reading thes type of threads, that way I can downlaod the songs and have some idea of what they mean!
Right now I just have to settle for dancing to the music alone.
I think the song Puerto Rico from the movie Salsa would be a great wedding dance...even though he is singing about Puerto Rico as opposed to his lover

Neither she nor I beleive in Marriage. It was more like a notion that that is how I feel about her. She understood it and gave me a huge hug and a kiss when I saw her next. :D :D :D

Oh, there are many beautiful songs for weddings.
Here some of my favorite ones:
Amame - El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico
He asks her to love him all his life because he needs her love, he does not want to loose her ever. If this love ever ends, his life will end.
I'll always love you - Tito Nieves
This one is in English and most people would understand it. Here the lyrics:
I’ll always love you for the rest of my days.
You have won my heart and soul with your sweet and sexy ways.
You gave me hope when I needed someone near.
You bring me happyness every day of the year.
I’ll always love you for all that you are.
You have made my life complete, you’re my lucky star.
You are the one that I’ve been searching for,
you are my everything, tell me who could ask for more.
I’ll always love you, Honey this will never end,
need you by my side, Baby, you’re my lover, my friend.
You are my everything, that’s why I love you.
Te quiero, te adoro. Eres mi único tesoro.
You are my everything, I need you by my side, I hope you realize.
Como un jardin de rosas vas alegrando mis cosas.
You’re my everything, and that makes me wanna sing.

Like Boriquensalsero said, Cheo Feliciano has some very romantic songs!
You should definitely find out about the message (lyrics) of a song before you pick it for a wedding dance.
Have to get out of my romantic mood back into working mood!

There is the absolutely beautiful song by Kenny Lattimore called "For You". Included on the the CD single is a spanish version of it. "Por Ti". This would be perfect if there were a Salsa ballad version of it. Does anyone know if there is and who sings it?
English lyrics but it's beautiful in spanish as well. :D
For you I give a lifetime of stablility, anything you want of me, nothing is
impossible
For you there are no words or ways to show my love or all the thoughts
I'm thinking of
'Cause this life is no good alone since we've become one I've made a
change
Everything I do now makes sense, all roads end, all I do is for you
For you I share the cup of love that overflows and anyone who knows us
knows that I would change all faults I have
For you there is no low or high or in between of my heart that you
haven't seen
'Cause I share all I have and am, nothing I've said is hard to understand
And all I feel I feel deeper still and always will all this love is for you
Every note that I play, every word I might say, every melody I feel
Are only for you and your appeal
Every page that I write, everyday of my life would not be filled without
the things
That my love for you now brings
For you I'd make a promise of fidelity, now and for eternity
No one could replace this vow
For you I'd take your hand and heart and everything and add to them a
wedding ring
'Cause this life is no good alone, since we've become one you're all I know
And if this feeling should leave I'd die and here's why
All I am is for you
Everything I do now makes sense, all roads end and all I do...
Is for you
Only for you
