You all know the drill by now...vote now or vote later, it's up to you. ;)
With Rocco & Karina gone, is it finally time for Cloris & Corky to leave? Or will Corky concoct a salsa impressive/entertaining enough to allow them to survive another week? On notice: Maurice & Cheryl, who continue to struggle with technique and "reigning in" his energy; Susan & Tony, who, despite their "best performance yet" last week, still come across as timid; and Cody & Julianne, who struggle with the former's lack of focus. Lance & Lacey finally seemed to gain favor in the eyes of all three judges, tying them for first place and earning them last week's encore; can they do it again with the West Coast Swing? Will Warren & Kym regain their footing after slipping a bit in their scores last week? Will Brooke & Derek continue to dominate, despite Derek's inexperience with the jitterbug? How will these four new dances turn out? Should we prepare for Armageddon?! Let's hear what you think!

According to Wikipedia Jitterbug is also jive.. So why are they going to do the same dance again? Or are different people going to dance it this time?
Jitterbug is to jive as Mambo is to Salsa, right?

jitterbug - The term became associated with swing dancers who danced without any control or knowledge of the dance.
mambo you dance on second beat, and salsa on first. ;) ( but you also have salsa on two). don't ask me to explain because it will take to long.

Hmmm still shoulds like a different name for the same thing to me.. LOL..
I have only done a bit of salsa and mambo so far but i gather the steps, and the timeing, are very much the same....

steps are the same, just timing is different.
salsa you start to dance on 1 and wait on 4, and mambo you dance on 2 and wait on 1.

I think Cloris should go bye bye! :) Lance & Lacey are my favorites followed by Cody & Julianne. Brooke Burke is pretty but I don't understand her dancing???
*~TEAM LANCE AND LACEY~*
*~TEAM CODY AND JULIANNE~*
What was up with Cloris' and Corky's Salsa? Was there ANY salsa in there? Let's see Salsa (the sauce) is red and their costumes had red in them.

[Not sure where to put this post.]
Have to comment on the first WCS performance. I don't know much about WCS but I think the dance puts the guy at a real disadvantage in this "competition" as his role is not intended to be as flashy as that of his partner. Isn't he supposed to be a kind of anchor around which the gal can do her thing?
The judges of course wanted to see Lance doing a lot more than he did, but if he had satisfied them, that would have made the dance out of character for WCS. Maybe I'm way off base here.

The dances I enjoyed most:
Brooke & Derek and Cody & Julianne.
Both jitterbugs were so much fun to watch, that would be a dance I would enjoy to learn myself. And I really liked the music for those dances. Cute, great fun and high energy.
I also was highly entertained by Warren and Kim. Big Warren just looked so funny but really stayed in the disco character. I thought he did great although he did not look anything close to John Travolta. I enjoy the hustle because it reminds me of the old disco days and I still really enjoy the music.
I had expected both salsas to be a desaster. Well, Cloris' salsa was! How could anyone call this salsa? I thought from her rehearsal clip that she would do a bit more dancing but this was very similar to their mambo and I thought it was awful.
I had very low expectations for Maurice also. However, I have to say that at least his dance looked like salsa and he shimmied and moved, did basic steps etc. He exceeded my expectations. I did not like Cheryl's salsa, though. Her not very good salsa might have been an advantage for Maurice as Cheryl did not really outdance him.
I was not impressed with any of the other dances.
Susan dances like being in dance class. I found Tony Braxton's outfit horrible, the outfit and the leg warmers were very unflattering for her legs. I cannot judge WCS as I have been exposed very little to this dance and know nothing about it. I liked Lacey but the judges were right, she made Lance's dancing basically invisible. It must be disappointing for them to be ranked almost at the bottom, as this is her specialty and she is the world champion.
I asked myself why WCS does never excite me as a dance but why I like the hustle so much better. I think the main reason is the music. I just don't care for the WCS music they use for swing dancing (or the music that swing is danced to in general). I like the swing music from the old days but not modern pop music for swing dancing.

My take:
Lance and Lacey--I liked it! I thought Lacey brought the sass and the number was fun to watch. Judges' comments a little unfair. Oh, she's outdancing her celeb? So totally unlike Edyta, right? (Mind you, I love watching Edyta outdance many of her celebs, but the point remains that Lacey is neither the first nor the worst offender in this dept.)
Alec and Toni--Oh! Hey! Lifts apparently ARE allowed this week, big time. This routine had some good parts and some parts that weren't west coast-y enough. And I don't think you absolutely have to do a moonwalk just because it's Michael.
Tony and Susan--Well, on the one hand, a very credible bronze/silver hustle, broken up by some lifts. On the other hand, the judges were right that it seemed a little careful. I thought the scores were too high. The gold go-go boots were cute. (Not sure that's what I'm wearing if I ever fracture a foot, but they looked nice on Susan.)
Warren and Kym--THAT WAS SERIOUSLY FUN!!! Loved this routine. I love that Warren really goes for it with arms and hands, too. I would love to see that routine again. Also loved Kym's outfit. Oh, and I can't believe I'm going to say this, but that was a credible version of "Funkytown." (I also would like to report that my brain had stored the obviously vital information that that song was sung by Lipps Inc. Apparently I am ready for Trivial Pursuit--80s edition.)
Cheryl and Maurice--Nice. Liked the head loops. It wasn't to die for, but it was nice.
Corky and Cloris--I have decided that when I'm 82, I want to be dancing salsa with a latin champion ~3 decades my junior: "It it were now to die, 'twere now to be most happy." While this routine wasn't the highlight of the night, it had some real salsa content and they milked the entertainment for all they could. May we all be doing salsa in our 80s!
Derek and Brooke--Fun and 50s-ish! But should Derek undercut the dance teacher business so much by implying you could learn a dance this well from the internet?
Cody and Julianne--VERY FUN! I actually liked this number even better than Derek and Brooke's! The retro "I Love Lucy"-style costumes and the humor of this number really worked for me. Would also like to see this one again.
Old school hip-hop, huh? On the one hand, that IS my kind of music. On the other hand, I remember that group country number....

You took the words right out of my beak for the most part!
Cloris and Corky's thing looked like a disjointed hodgepodge of disparate moves that didn't have much to do with one another, ZERO Salsa content there. At least Maurice and Cheryl's spot looked like a Salsa.
I just don't care for the WCS music they use for swing dancing (or the music that swing is danced to in general). I like the swing music from the old days but not modern pop music for swing dancing.
AMEN and thank you! For me to do ANY kind of swing dance (EC or WC) that music HAS to have a swing to it, stiff, robotic mechanical sounding modern pop just doesn't inspire me to dance.
Somehow, the Hustle spots just completely left me cold (and this is a dance I LOVE BTW) Between the horrid music arrangements, and to me what looked like a lot of gratuitous corny Travolta-esque arm work (I HATE that stuff, that's why I like how Hustle is done now because that is largely absent from it).
I actually liked Tony Braxton's WCS but you're definitely right about that outfit, ARRRRRGH!
Warren and Kym--THAT WAS SERIOUSLY FUN!!! Loved this routine. I love that Warren really goes for it with arms and hands, too. I would love to see that routine again. Also loved Kym's outfit. Total agreement on these 4. Maurice's salsa actually impressed me. And you have no idea how snobby I am about salsa/mambo performances given how many routines I've watched over the past 8 years. So I was really happy that he pulled it off. ;) Though I have to admit that Cheryl's lack of comfort with salsa is surprising to me given that she's from the Bay Area and salsa is *HUGE* there. Plus her new studio is located in a salsa-heavy area. You would -think- that at some point in her ballroom career that she might have dabbled in it a bit more. :?
Old school hip-hop, huh? On the one hand, that IS my kind of music. On the other hand, I remember that group country number....
Depends on 2 things: The choreographer for the hip hop (please let it be Dave Scott, Shane Sparks or Napoleon & Tabitha!) and the hip-hop style. Let's not forget how awesome Pasha Kovelev was in his hip hop routine with Lacey Schwimmer last year - a number choreo'd by Dave Scott.

Best night so far!!!
Top 4 in my eyes were Warren's hustle, Maurices salsa (#1), Brooke and Cody's jitterbugs....
The rest of the dances were just hohummm...
But did not like the choices of music for the hustle.. There are way better, more modern songs that they could have used...
I sure wish that they could use canned music for some numbers on this show.. I am tired of that band butchering songs that usually sound ok...
Lance- What is up with the judges now disapproving of the lady dancers dancing around the male celebs? It's always been ok for Julianne and Karina. Thought it was good, (for WCS, which I'm not really much of a fan of.)
Toni- Wow, Alec does an amazingly Latin WCS. Toni did good with what she was given. (And I liked her outfit.)
Susan- Just did not like.
Warren- It was good. A little too bouncy, but cute. (Hated that rendition of funkytown though.)
Cloris- Not my favorite performance of hers.
Maurice- A lot too ballroomy for my taste. Maurice did well with what he was given though.
Brooke- Meh, not my favorite.
Cody- Meh, not my favorite.
For tomorrow- Yay for Brian Setzer! I don't think I've ever been excited about the musical guest before!

I seem to be attracted to high energy this week: Both Jitterbugs and Maurice's Sala were the top dances for me.
Warren was good, but not great. Lance did fine, as well, but got dinged by the character of the dance (ladies play, guys support). Toni's WCS seem to be something unrelated to the dance.
Bottom of the heap: Cloris and Susan. For an 80 year old learning to dance, Cloris was impressive, but she is getting props for dancing at 80, not dancing well. Susan still too timid.

Lance: The judges need to learn a thing or two about WCS. I dont do the dance but I've seen enough of it to know that the lady's part is ALWAYS flashier than the guy's part. I liked their dance and thought it was scored too low.
Toni: I'm sorry, but I didnt see any WCS in their routine (well, maybe one or two steps). I'm disappointed that Alec didnt get with any of his dancer friends who know how to WCS so that they could show him a couple of steps and he could build around it. Was expecting more from both him and Toni. Didnt like this dance.
Susan: On the plus side, they actually did a hustle! On the minus side, they made it boring! Not sure how, but they did. Guess maybe because it was slow and they just seemed really careful. Hustle only looks good if you are doing it with umpf!!
Warren: Very impressive for a beginner! He was a little too backweighted, which kept him from being able to come forward afterwards quick enough, but it was a good hustle AND it was fun to watch. Liked it!
NOTE TO CARRIE ANN: Stop saying "disco"! Its called "hustle"!!!
Cloris: Ok, not only am I tired of seeing her try to dance and seeing Corky try to break her bones, I'm really getting tired of his slapstick. I mean, those pants and those socks and his facial expressions! He makes a mockery of the dances with his comedy! I may be in the minority here, because I know everyone likes Corky and he's great and all, but I'm tired of him already. Wish they would have put Cloris with Tony D. instead. Didnt like this dance.
Maurice: Why is Cheryl freaking out about not knowing salsa? She's done mambo every season she's been on the show and its really not all that different. They did a good dance but I just dont really connect with Maurice. Wouldnt mind if he goes....
Brooke: Derek has "Grease" hair!! His hair looks like Kiniki from the movie but he's dorky like the two little guys who followed Kiniki around throughout the movie. Too funny! I liked this routine. And I think the getting it off the internet thing only worked because he's a pro and SHOULD be able to pick up a dance similar to styles he already knows. To the rest of us, we would have been scratching our heads going, "whaaat?"
Cody: Bless his heart, he was just so happy to get a good score. I want to like him, I really do. But he's just sooo young and annoying with his ADHD that I just cant. But I have to say Julianne did do a pretty good Lucy!

I just saw three of the clips on MOIB and *loved* Maurice, Warren and Cody's dances. They all seemed to be so much more at ease than with the traditional ballroom dances. I am hoping (hint, hint) they'll post Brooke's, too, since she got the top score.

Once you watch Brooke's there won't be any reason to watch the rest of the routines. I'm still cringing over how bad Alec Mazo's WCS was.

Haven't watched the entire show yet (missed the first half due to taking a last minute lesson), but as for this "mystery guest judge" next week - anyone else think it could be Paula Abdul? True, she is not a ballroom judge, but there has been talk of her being on the show for some time now - and not as a contestant. If it's not her, I honestly have no idea who it could be...

Agreed.
Also, on a slightly related note, Len's planning on quitting either Strictly Come Dancing or Dancing with the Stars due to fatigue from all of the back-and-forth travel every week. His heart is telling him to stay with SCD but his head, and paycheck, are telling him to stay with DwtS.

He won't leave. The money is too good on DwtS. And I agree that the show needs him. A jazz/hiphop choreographer/actress and broadway dancer/choreographer/actor aren't "ballroom-y" enough to be judging. The show needs him.

DOI, we always miss DWTS at my studio, but at sister's studio, they have it up on tv mounted on wall. :) I've actually been known to go to her studio after work and watch it with them.
When they announced Cloris & Corky as safe right at the beginning I thought that Lance & Lacey were toast. Imagine my surprise, and bit of relief, when they were announced as safe. As soon as they announced who the bottom 2 were it was pretty easy to see who would be going home.

:uplaugh: yeah, i guess judges who actually know what they are talking about and songs that actually represent and showcase the dances are waaaaay too much to ask from a network who obviously is just after ratings, not accuracy.
I can still dream for a day when we can have accuracy in portraying ballroom on tv, world peace and a debt free government, though. :D

But this is worse, as Cloris upstages other actors and even the kids. Her antics are disgusting and unprofessional and you can't call what she does on the floor dancing.http://www.dance-forums.com/images/icons/icon8.gif I don't understand why or how she's still around, and how the other celebs don't resent her. I realize it's "Show business", but come on, just call this a reality show that has very little to do with dancing and be done with it. I fast forwarded our Tivo to the end after she was safe, then just watched bits & pieces. Poor Toni, Rocco & Ted. Poor viewers. Poor show. Give the people less power & the proper judges more power. Only way to save it, imo.

My head knows you are right, but my heart hates that ballroom is being misrepresented in the judging by ppl who dont know what they are talking about and the music that does not fit the dance. Just ignore me...I'll get over it eventually. ;)
Hahahahaaa.... I does seem to increase enrollment at the ballroom studios every time a new seasons starts....
