Other than SDs photos :notworth:  are there any photos that you have seen that made you look three times? Do you remember what it was about the photo that made you look and gave you that "wow" factor?
What, if anything, would inspire you to buy a photo, enlarged if necessary, to hang on your office, living room, bedroom and/or bathroom walls? (I included bathroom for the danceaholics  )
What about paintings made as a result of a photo? ie. the artist's interpretation of the photo?

This will sound strange, but what the heck. I like to do google image searches on various dance topics, and see what I get. Try it. Just google ballroom dance, for example. There are a lot of cool images that yuo can even pull down and save. 8) (Be careful about copyright infringement, though. A lot of the images have a copyright disclaimer on them.)

Pygmalion, what I am trying to find out is what people makes people say "wow". For instance, taking some of the painters. Someone will look at Picasso and go "wow". I will then look at the same painting and go "yuck!!!!!!"
What is it in a photo that you see/your brain registers that makes you think "I like the photo. I want a copy to hang on my wall"
Sabor  as if you haven't done it/thought of it
Hey! If it was easy and inexpensive, I would have a "special" dance photo/dance image created on a series of tiles and tile my bathroom with it :D People have mirrors and sculptures in their bathroom, why not dance images

I'm pondering the wow factor, Pacion. As soon as I figure it out, I'll post something. 8)
I think I know what you're getting at, though. Like why, of all the photos of Pilobolus I could have chosen, did I pick the one I'm using as my avatar? Hmm.

Thanks for the kind review Pacion!
Jenn, I think you're dead on as to the question. It's sort of a more inclusive variant of the post I made in F&I asking people for input on which of my photo album (http://www.dance-forums.com/album/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=42) shots they liked the best and why.... I find it particularly interesting as I agree with most, but I also have some shots I really, really love (two come to mind) that no one's commented on, and I'm really curious what that's about.
In general dance art has to capture some gestalt of pasion, intimacy, and connection to really catch my attention and a dance photo tends to need these plus power and contol to really draw me in.

It wasn't a kind review  just the truth (according to me) :D :D :D

Which two shots are those? If I know which ones, I will go back and have a look and try and figure out why I might not have commented on them/why I didn't get the "wow" factor.
Anyway, you say that there are two that no one has commented on? No one has commented on any of mine and there are two or three that I particularly like, so
Once I get organised (which will hopefully be sometime this year  ) and am going to have some larger prints made, perhaps even bound/framed in plastic, so that I can put them in my bathroom  :D

Well, thanks just the same...
As far as the shots that I really like, they're this one of Brian & Kristina (http://www.dance-forums.com/album/showphoto.php?photo=310&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=2) and this one of Slavik & Karina (http://www.dance-forums.com/album/showphoto.php?photo=295&password=&sort=1&size=medium&cat=500&page=2).

For me, it has to capture the emotion and/or the movement of dance. Preferably both. Bill Brauer's paintings are quite effective. I saw a large Brauer poster of Scarlet Dancer (http://www.art.com/asp/sp-asp/_/ui--C6E457E1B4BA4343B5F1FAD48FB863B7/PD--10071869/sOrig--CAT/sOrigID--2847/Scarlet_Dancer.htm), framed with a lovely handmade wooden frame and just had to have it. It's hanging in our entrance way and beautifully expresses our family's involvement in dance because it has lots of emotion.
There are also some great posters at dancingart.com (http://www.dancingart.com) that have this kind of emotional power and lots of movement inherent in the work.
I also like the photography of Thomas Billingsley. His stuff truly has "wow" factor, which is why it adorns my dance music site (http://www.dancesportmusic.com). You can see more examples by *******ing the home page, as there are several photos selected randomly.

Hmm. That's a cool perspective, adwiz. For me, I think it's lines that catch my eye. Not necessarily perfect lines, but well-defined ones.
I also like to see emotion (not out-of-a-bottle grimaces) real emotion, on dancers.

An explicit copyright notice is not required. Assume all images are copyright unless the creator has told you otherwise.

Yes. That's what I liked abou the pilobolus photos (there are tons of them, btw :D .) The photos say owner: Everyone. No copyright worries there. 8) :D

This is the case!
Actually, one of the images Adwiz mentioned strikes me as bearing a remarkable resemblance to a shot I took. Normally I'd think nothing of it (as most top couples have well known lines that many photographer get shots of) except that the when I showed them that particular shot they told me it was the first time anyone had got it. I'll assume that someone else has since replicated the pose, but given that the costuming in the artwork is identical to that from my shot, I am curious... :?

Adwiz! I like your website. I am going to look at it for some cha cha music. I like the lists because they are "current/modern music"
SD, I have had a look at the two photos you mentioned. Hmmm, sorry, but they don't give me the "wow" factor. When I look at the photos, I see tanned legs (a much darker tan than my "natural" one at that   ). Whilst they are interesting and their positions captured are interesting, the tanned legs are all I see and as such, anything else in the photos is lost to me
This is a perfect example of the thing that inspired me to do this thread :D
