So many lists of so many moves, but none for swing!! :( The ironic thing is, just after recently posting that swing is one of those things that I have put aside, I realize I probably could do a lot of swing in the R&B dance this coming Friday. I need some suggestions as to how I can quickly ******* my brain and muscle cells enough to do myself and swing a little justice. I've just checked out bustamove.com and some other sites with clips, but I want to push myself. Can you help me out? Sites that show moves well, step lists...anything else that will get me up to speed?

Thanks spitfire I checked it out. The video clips did bring up one or two things that I haven't done recently, but that's about it!! :(

Virg,
It's certainly not "moves" that make a WCS dancer. I probably know several hundred moves, and those moves do not a WCS dancer make!

If you know a good ten to twenty moves, you could be the WCS dancer that you want to be.

You already know moves. You already know music. You already know body language . . . now . . . learn to play.

Don't always follow the rules, but always remember to PLAY! Pull her off on ct 1 and play, play, play, until she settles back on an anchor - whether it's ct 6 or ct 26. Play, but always look her deeply in the eyes. Let her know that you love to dance with her without saying a word.

Start her one way, then with your free hand, stop, send her off in another direction.

Lead her slowly down the slot . . . let her get slinky and flirty with you. Try raising your L hand as you bring her down the slot, put pressure on her palm to indicate how slow or fast you want her to slink.

Spin her in with your R hand, and catch and dip her with your L hand.

Let her hi-jack you, then hi-jack her right back.

Start her into a move that "she thinks she really knows," then stop her and back her out of it. Watch the expression on her face.

Let her do all of this to you.

WCS is not as structured as it was even two years ago! And unless you are competing . . . throw out those rules and play!

Thanks for the tips. I don't remember ever being hijacked in WC. And I do play with the music. Just getting myself into the dance scene. It's like salsa. I have lived and breathed salsa and it shows. Seeing moves, listening to the music....every little bit helps.

There actually is a swing video clip that is the new variation of the week on the ballroomdancers.com learning center. It reminded me of some things that I hadn't thought about...the triple step and how it isn't three steps of equally emphasis. It isn't necessarily the move that I learn by watching a clip. Remember I haven't really done swing for ages, and I only did it for a short while.

Thanks again for the advice. It definitely has helped me out, in ways perhaps you may not have thought of! :D

I love those Brown University videos.

http://www.pensacolaswing.com/ has videos. Click the "Video" tab.

I like these videos a lot: http://www.drraw.com/swingjams.htm but those people are crazy advanced.

Demos of instruction: http://www.swingthings.com/videoclips2.htm

The most fun I've ever had watching Lindy Hop online: http://www.stevedandrebecca.com/performances.asp

The Arias instructional demos are really good: http://www.dancedancedance.com/videos.htm

If you want to read an entire Lindy curriculum, here is one: http://www.jitterbuzz.com/curric.html It's all text. They also get ya started with Bal-swing (in text): http://www.jitterbuzz.com/balbas.html
